A Bedtime Prayer for Protection

Protection is one of the common themes that Christians pray for before going to sleep. Indeed, Christians pray for their protection in the morning as they face another day, but at that time there are other things that Christians need to pray for. At night, they pray for themselves. Why? You see, when you are asleep, you are unconscious—being asleep means that many things can happen while you are deep in your sleep. That is when you will pray for protection; protection in the sense that you will be able to sleep safely. That is one of the things that most Christians tend to overlook and fail to thank God for. Many things can happen in your sleep every single night while you are unconscious. But still, you have been able to wake up every day because of God’s grace and mercy in your life.

What scriptures talk about protection?

There are a lot of scriptures that talk about protection, many of them in Psalms. One good example is Psalm 91, especially verses 9 and 10:

“Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.”

Psalm 91 talks about having God as our refuge and fortress; because we have God as our refuge and fortress, we are safe. That is why when we need protection, we run to God and call out to Him. He is our refuge and fortress in Whom we trust.

You can pray Psalm 91 in a manner like this:

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are my refuge and fortress; the One who keeps me safe. I thank You because no evil or plague shall befall me as I take refuge in You. I will not fear the terror of the night, the arrows of the day, pestilence in the darkness, or destruction, for under Your wings I find my refuge. Give me the grace to always trust in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are my refuge and fortress; the One who keeps me safe.

A Bedtime Prayer for Protection

What is a good prayer for protection?

A good prayer for protection does not only cover you but also your family members. After all, everything we do should be rooted in selfless love. If you pray that you will safely sleep in peace, then surely you want your loved ones to sleep peacefully as well. You can also pray for protection so that no home invaders or burglars will break into your house. There are worse things that could happen besides people with evil intentions stealing things from your house. Of course, you have to take precautions by locking the doors and installing security systems, and for the men, you have the responsibility to protect your families. But still, at the end of the day, protection comes from the Lord. Therefore, pray for God’s protection over you and your loved ones’ sleep; that you all may sleep peacefully and safely and that God will guard your home from any evil.

Psalm 3:5

I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are my refuge and fortress; the One who keeps me safe.

Psalm 4:8

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are my refuge and fortress; the One who keeps me safe.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are my refuge and fortress; the One who keeps me safe.

A Bedtime Prayer for Protection

Here is one of the ways to pray for protection upon your family as you go to sleep:

Heavenly Father, I thank You because you are the almighty and everlasting God who keeps me and my loved ones safe and sound. Father, as my loved ones and I go to sleep, I thank You because You are the one who sustains and protects us while we are sleeping. You are always with us. You never leave us or forsake us. Therefore, we shall sleep peacefully knowing that You are with us. I pray that You would keep all evil away from us and away from our home. Protect our household, God, from any evil. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Always remember that it is the Lord who sustains you and your loved ones; He is, as well, the One who keeps you safe. He keeps you safe not just from evil men but from the devil himself. The Lord is the one who keeps you from evil and the One who upholds your life.
