A Birthday Prayer Before Meal

A birthday is one of the special celebrations in a person’s life because it honors, appreciates, and acknowledges another year added to a beautiful soul on earth. And all of that is because of the grace, mercies, and faithfulness of our Heavenly Father in Christ Jesus. 

People can celebrate their birthday at any time of the day. Usually, before eating time starts, the occasion begins with a prayer. You may be thinking, “What would be a good birthday prayer before a meal?” Here is an example:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the life of (the celebrant) today. May You continue to bless, guide, and give her wisdom and peace throughout the year. Her existence is a gift to us, and I thank the LORD for His grace and mercies upon her. I pray that You’ll bless the food on our table, fill us with Your joy as we eat, and share memories and laughter today in Jesus’ name. Amen.

What prayer do I say before eating?

You can begin by simply thanking God for the celebrant’s life; for His faithfulness, goodness, good declarations, and blessings for the person. Then thank God for the meal you are about to partake in and bless everyone in the name of Jesus. It can be as simple as that. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in praying, and He may even begin to input scriptures into your mind. As long as prayers are offered in faith and sincere love, God hears them, and that pleases Him.

What is a good birthday prayer?

A good birthday prayer speaks of life, blessing, and declaration of God’s promises to the celebrant. When one is having a birthday, you want them to feel special, loved, valued, and honored in the LORD. You want to remind them of God’s faithfulness, the source of life and peace.

1. Numbers 6:24-26

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

This scripture passage makes a powerful prayer of blessing upon the birthday celebrant. It declares a blessing from the LORD and the countenance of God to be on the celebrant, as well as hope, grace, and peace upon his or her life. 

2. Psalm 139:13-14

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

This scripture passage can remind the celebrant how God has always been with them even before birth. It also reminds them how fearfully and wonderfully God made them. That endless praises shall continue in the celebrant’s life, for the LORD is faithful even in adding another year of life to celebrate. 

3. Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

This scripture passage can remind the celebrant that God can finish what He has begun in their life until the day Jesus Christ returns. It can be an excellent encouragement to the birthday celebrant that God is faithful to the end.

How do you pray for a birthday meal?

When praying for a birthday meal, you may thank the Father for providing the food on your table, bless those who prepared it, and declare His presence in your fellowship with loved ones. You can say this after you’ve said your prayers and declarations for the birthday celebrant. Here is an example:

Heavenly Father, I want to thank You for the food on our table as we celebrate a joyous birthday of a precious soul. May You bless the food on our table and those who prepared it. Fill us with Your joy and presence as we eat and make memories together in Jesus’ name. Amen.
