Whenever we have a Bible study, it is always good to begin with a prayer. The prayer does not necessarily have to be long. A good short prayer in which you come before God in humility and dependence on Him will do. You can say a good short prayer before and after the Bible study. Hebrews 4:16 says that in Christ, we have the confidence to draw near before God’s throne of grace and ask Him for mercy in times of need.

Why Pray as You Hold a Bible Study
We pray as we have Bible study simply because we should depend on God as we study the Bible. On our own, we will never behold the wonders of God’s Word, for we are just finite beings that are dependent on an infinite God who is the One that gives us all the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom we need (Proverbs 2:6; 2 Peter 3:18). In Romans 11:36, it is written that from God, through God, and to God are all things. “All things” refers to all things. If it all comes from God, ultimately, we must seek everything from Him. It also follows that everything we do will be for His glory, for He is the end goal.
Another Scripture that shows us that God is the source of everything, including knowledge and understanding, is Daniel 2:18. In the passage, Daniel asks his friends to seek God and His mercy to understand King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream since no wise men could interpret it and all wise men were being executed because of it. Scripture tells us that Daniel’s friends sought God for understanding and did not try to figure out the meaning of the dream themselves. Therefore, whenever you need understanding, seek God first, for it ultimately comes from Him.
Depend on God for the grace, mercy, and understanding you need as you study His Word. We should do that by coming to God in prayers (Philippians 4:6-7). However, aside from depending on God in prayer, we also pray because we are committing the Bible study to God (Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.). In the end, everything we do is ultimately for God and His glory (Colossians 3:23-24; 1 Corinthians 10:31).

You also include in the prayer that what you are about to do is all about Him and for Him.
