A Prayer For A Place To Stay

The decision to move to a new place is more than just a simple choice. There are several reasons why you could need to change homes. You might be being relocated due to your work, studying at a university in a different state, wanting to be independent and have your own place, etc. Regardless of why you are currently looking for a new place, it would be wise to pray about your decision, asking God for guidance and help with the things you’ll need to consider.

Father in heaven, may I depend on You every step of the way as I pray for a new place to move to. Guide me throughout my decision-making process. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The Community

As you consider a new place to stay, you should look into the community. Suppose you are a student looking for a dormitory, a working professional considering renting an apartment with several other people to divide the rent, or any circumstance that would entail you staying with other people. In that case, you must consider these other people. The community you’ll be in and the people you surround yourself with can influence or impact your growth.

This has to be approached with wisdom and grace. It does not mean we never associate with those who do not follow Christ. God can use you as His instrument in bringing your fellow tenants to Christ as you preach the Gospel to them and reflect Christ to them through your life (Matthew 5:16; Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.). However, there is also the aspect of discernment; exercising wisdom as to whom you want to surround yourself with in terms of your growth as a believer.

So, we can pray that just as we look for a new and acceptable place to stay, God will also lead us to a place where we will be surrounded by people with whom we can grow, have meaningful connections, and be able to reach out to if they are not yet believers.

Father in heaven, as I look for a new place to stay, lead me to find a place where I will be able to have fellow tenants who will positively impact my life. Use me as a vessel of Your grace and mercy toward them—to be the light that will point them to Christ’s ultimate light. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Guidance and Wisdom

When seeking a new place to stay, you must consider various factors such as your budget, the proximity to places you will want to go, accessibility to work or school, the location and surroundings of the place, and many more features. This makes deciding which new place to consider quite complex. Therefore, we ask God for the wisdom, guidance, and discernment we need as we choose which place to consider (James 1:5; Proverbs 2:6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.).

The Bible says that we can freely ask God for wisdom because He generously gives to those who ask. Our comfort is that as we exercise wisdom and discernment when choosing to move to a new place, God’s providential hand leads us no matter where we are. He has gone before us, and He is our shepherd who leads us (Psalm 23:1-3; Proverbs 16:9).

Heavenly Father, as I look for a new place to stay, give me the wisdom and discernment I need in weighing my options. Guide me as I search for a place to stay and lead me to the place where I can get the best deal, have a good neighborhood around me, and find a safe place where I can be comfortable. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

 

Asking Our Father

Praying for a new place to stay is not just about praying to God to be surrounded by a good community and having the wisdom and discernment we need as we choose. It is also about coming before God’s throne of grace to ask Him for the things we need (Hebrews 4:16). God is our heavenly Father. As His children, we can come to Him for what we need, whether that is the finances to pay the rent, favor from the landlord, being able to find a place after a long search, mortgage approval if we are buying a new unit, etc. The Bible says that those who ask will receive (Matthew 7:7-8), and sometimes we do not have things because we do not ask for them (James 4:2  Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.).

God wants us to come to Him and ask Him for what we need as we pray for a new place to stay. He cares about us and listens to our prayers. So, as His sons and daughters, we ought to lift our needs and prayer requests to God (Philippians 4:6-7).

Father in heaven, I pray for the financial provision I need to pay the rent/mortgage on the new place where I am going to stay. I pray for a favorable deal with the landlord. Provide me a place where I can rest. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Another thing that you can pray for as you ask God for a new place to stay is that it will be a place of refreshment and healing for the guests you will have over. Whether you are already working or are a student, you are called to exercise hospitality. Having guests over to your place does not always have to be an extravagant event. Simple hospitality is enough. Virtue is called hospitality, and it is connected to the word “hospital” because we make our home a place of healing and comfort to the broken (Romans 12:13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.).
