Appreciating God’s goodness Expels the rebellious spirit

Psalm 106:7 KJV

“Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red Sea.”

Psalm 106:7 reveals to us that the Israelites’ lack of appreciation and understanding of God’s miraculous deeds and kindness eventually led them to rebel against God. They forgot about the kindness of God and turned their backs against him, causing them to sin against God.

Sometimes in our Christian life, there are situations in life where our character will be tested and the contents of our hearts will be revealed. If we are not sensitive enough to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, we may end up rebelling against God by hardening our hearts to his disciplines. Psalm 106:7 reveals to us that a rebellious spirit comes only from a lack of appreciation and awe of God’s greatness and goodness. We can avoid this spirit by focusing on God’s goodness every day and not letting a moment pass by without recognizing His kindness in every situation and thanking Him for even the smallest of things in life, such as waking up for the day, spending time with your loved ones, having a job, receiving a salary, having food to eat, and so much more.

The more you appreciate God, even in the smallest of things, the more you will be sensitive to His Spirit. During trials and seasons of struggle, you will remember His goodness and greatness, so you will only need to be still and trust in the Lord.

When you pray to God, acknowledge His goodness in your life and thank Him for all that He has done. Ask for His forgiveness for the times that you may have overlooked His marvelous works in your life, and thank the Holy Spirit for increasing your sensitivity to the goodness and grace of God. As you focus on God’s goodness, you will automatically live from a place of His goodness and righteousness.
