A Good Prayer When Rejected?

Rejection is perhaps one of the most painful experiences any person may go through in their lives. Rejection occurs not just when it comes to romantic relationships. A person can also be rejected by the company they are applying for. They might be rejected by friends, family, and even those in the church sometimes. As one experiences rejection, they must grieve properly with the loss they have suffered. The good thing is that our God is never absent in times of grief due to rejection.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because even though I feel I am walking in the valley of the shadow of death as I grieve with the rejection I just experienced, You are with me. Your presence comforts me in such times. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What Comfort Does the Bible Say When You Are Rejected?

Rejection is painful, not just because things didn’t go how a person hoped they would. It is painful because a certain endeavor associated with hopes and dreams is also lost in line with the rejection. For example, if a person applies for a certain company and job opening, especially if it is their dream job or career, a rejection from the company means their dream is lost. Perhaps they may feel like they are not as good as other applicants. They may also not know what to do next.

We must run to God’s Word for comfort whenever we experience rejection and the grief that comes with it. In such troubling times, God is our only refuge (Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.). But what are some of the comforts the Bible gives those grieving because of a rejection? One is Psalm 27:10, in which David says that his mother and father may forsake him, but God will receive him. It does not say that his parents were neglectful of him. The passage’s main point is that people may reject us, but God will receive and accept us. That is one of the comforts we can also find in the Gospel. We are sinners who are rejected by God and recipients of His wrath (Romans 1:18  The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,). However, because of what Christ has done on the cross (Ephesians 2:1-9), not only are we accepted and forgiven by God, but also we are adopted into His family. That does not mean we continue sinning and stay the way we are since we are accepted in Christ. Rather, it constrains our hearts to pursue holiness.

Also, in Psalm 34:18, it is written that God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit. As mentioned above, God is not absent in what you are currently going through. He is near you. He knows that you are crushed in spirit and is the one who heals you (Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.).

Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Another comforting verse that you can ponder on is Lamentations 3:22-23. It tells us that God’s love for us is steadfast. It means that no matter what season you may find yourself in, His love is constant and always there. His mercies are also new every morning. Just as we need strength to get through the days as we grieve over a rejection, His mercies are everlasting. Lastly, the passage tells us that God is faithful. Regardless of the emotions you are feeling as you grieve, God is faithful, and that is the truth.

How Can I Pray When Rejected?

As you grieve due to rejection, there are two kinds of prayers you can remember. One is praying and asking God for healing and the grace and strength you need daily. Remember that healing or recovering from rejection is not an overnight process. (Hebrews 4:16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.) says that we can approach God’s throne of grace and ask Him for the grace and mercy we need.

Father in heaven, the rejection I just experienced from my loved friends is so painful that it crushes my heart. Heal me from these wounds and restore my soul. Give me the grace to process well what just happened and the strength to face tomorrow despite how difficult it is because of my grief. Thank You because, in the end, my joy is not in my circumstances but in Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

In the second kind of prayer, you remember and confess the Scriptures. We can run to God’s Word because it offers comfort whenever we experience a rejection. Take comfort in the verses found in Lamentations 3:22-23, Psalm 147:3, and Psalm 27:10. As you pray, you can confess and remember those verses and who God is.

Heavenly Father, in such painful times, I am not alone. You are with me and are the One who heals my broken heart. I can face tomorrow despite how difficult it is because Your mercies are new every morning. I know that no matter what just happened, everything works together for my good. You are faithful. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Romans 8:28 states that all things work together for the good of those who love God. It is a truth that you can always bank on. The Bible also says that God is faithful, perfect in His ways, and just. We can always trust God, who holds everything together and works everything according to the counsel of His will.
