A Daily Prayer for Forgiveness

Forgiveness and repentance are critical parts of a believer’s daily journey with God. It isn’t true to claim that you no longer sin once you have received Jesus Christ in your life. The Bible says in 1 John 1:8 that, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” In fact, the battle intensifies the moment we say “yes” to Christ and “no” to sin and all things involving Satan and his kingdom of darkness. This is because God has taken us from darkness to light; we were once His enemies, but are now sons and daughters in the Kingdom of Light through Jesus Christ. Even though we are no longer called sinners, but saints, we may sometimes stumble in our walk with God because we are all still in the process of sanctification, which requires the renewal of our mind every day through the Word of God.

So, how can you ask God for forgiveness when you fall and stumble into sin, into things like anger, bitterness, offensive behavior, a lack of faith, and disobedience to the Word? You can pray for forgiveness in this manner:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy and grace upon my life. Despite my weaknesses and failures, You still love me all the same. I ask You to forgive me of any wrong-doings I have done today that may have hurt Your heart. Cleanse me and renew my mind with Your Word; give me a fresh revelation that I may walk according to Your will and not sin against You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy and grace upon my life.

A Daily Prayer for Forgiveness

Asking God for forgiveness every day may not be required, especially when you know that you are walking according to Christlikeness and fixing your eyes upon Jesus. You don’t have to dwell on your old nature and repeatedly ask God about things He has already forgiven. However, when you stumble in your walk with God, you can confess your sins and ask for His forgiveness.

Moreover, Jesus Christ taught us that we can only receive the forgiveness of God when we forgive others for their wrong-doings in our lives. As you pray and ask for forgiveness from God, allow the Holy Spirit to reveal deep things within your own mind and heart, as He might reveal certain people whom you need to also forgive before the Father.

How do you ask God for forgiveness for hurting someone?

When the Holy Spirit convicts you of a wrong-doing or about certain things that you have done, it means that He is at work in your life and wants you to bring these things to God, ask for forgiveness if you must, and repent of your ways. Many Christians cringe back into shame and guilt when they have done wrong to their neighbors, and when the Holy Spirit starts to bring such things into their conscience, not knowing that this is the grace of God working in the believers’ life. Through the help of the Holy Spirit, we can strengthen our salvation and relationship with God by remaining close to Him, no matter the circumstances of life.

If the Holy Spirit revealed that you had hurt someone, it may be tempting to feel ashamed and run away from God. Just remember that the Word of God says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). So, how do you ask God for forgiveness for hurting someone? Here is a prayer to ask God for forgiveness in such a case:

Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing to me through the Holy Spirit the negative things I caused. Forgive me for the things I have done and for my lack of knowledge and understanding of Your truth and Your ways. Give me the strength to ask for the person’s forgiveness whom I hurt. Thank You for Your grace that empowers me in all my weaknesses, so that I may not repeat the wrong things done in the past. I receive Your peace, Your love, and Your forgiveness in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy and grace upon my life.

A Daily Prayer for Forgiveness

It is a powerful thing to humble yourself and be reconciled, not just with God, but also with the person whom you have hurt. Remember, sometimes, even when you sincerely ask for a person’s forgiveness, he or she may not forgive you immediately. Just do your part and let God handle the rest. However the offended person may react, just be patient and continue to move on with your life.

How do I repent daily?

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy and grace upon my life.

A Daily Prayer for Forgiveness

Forgiveness and repentance go hand in hand. You don’t exclusively ask God for forgiveness, but must also repent of your ways and be changed with the help of the Holy Spirit. So how do you repent daily? You must continually fill your mind with the Word of God, with the things of God, and with a constant hunger for His presence so that you can have the mind of Christ and walk victoriously against sin and flesh every day. The moment you set your mind on the things above, change is already taking place with how you think and perceive things in life.  The more you fix your eyes on Jesus Christ and His Word, the more you are renewed according to Christlikeness.

Our mind is the beginning point of repentance. Repentance means changing the way you think. Jesus first preached about repentance, saying, “Repent ye for the Kingdom of God is at hand” (Matthew 3:2). When He said this, it was an invitation to change their old ways of thinking because Christ Jesus has come. For instance, in the story of Zacchaeus, a tax collector, he repented the moment he encountered Jesus. The Lord visited his house and experienced the kindness and mercy of God. As a result, Zacchaeus had a change of both heart and mind. He told the Lord that he would give half of his possessions to the poor and pay back four times the amount he had stolen from the people.

Through the Lord Jesus Christ, we can fully receive God’s forgiveness, as well as forgive others, come into repentance, and transform our minds and hearts. It is by encountering the kindness and goodness of God that leads us to repentance.
