A Beautiful Prayer for My Daughter

There are many things a godly parent can pray for their daughter, but one thing is for sure—their prayer is deeply grounded in their love and care for their child. Sometimes it may even come from worrying and concern for their daughter; still, this is because of the parent’s love for their daughter.

1 Peter 5:7-8

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

How do I pray for my child?

You can pray about various things, depending on your child’s age. For example, if your daughter is about to go to college or is already in college, things like having the wisdom to choose a career to follow or course to take are in line with God’s will, as well as the desire to keep herself pure and holy, since there may be men trying to court her. You have to pray more on the latter, especially if non-Christian men try to date her.

Heavenly Father, I pray that You would give wisdom to my daughter as she decides on her future. Lead her on the path that You want for her, for I know You have a purpose for her. I pray that she would seek Your counsel and that her primary motive in her choices is to be Your instrument and glorify You in whatever she wants to do. Help her guard her heart against any man and be patient, for her current season in life is to study and not to date. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Suppose your daughter is in the season of being a young professional. For sure, dating and marriage are some areas of your daughter’s life that you should pray for aside from her career. You can pray for her to exercise wisdom and obey God on the matter by choosing or dating only a man who is a genuine follower of Christ. You can pray for her career so that she will be salt and light wherever God has placed her.

Father, I pray that You would always give my daughter the grace to be excellent in her career and that she will be able to represent You there faithfully. Whatever your daughter’s age – whether she is in elementary school, high school, or college – you should also pray for her everyday safety as she goes to school and for her education since her studies are a big part of her future. Pray for things like her learning well and understanding her lessons clearly. Take note that some secular schools now teach ungodly things to children. You can pray for your daughter to guard her mind against being indoctrinated into worldly things.

How do I bless my daughter?

Above all, you should pray for your daughter’s salvation and relationship with the Lord. Just because a couple is already saved does not mean a daughter inherits their faith and salvation. Your relationship with Jesus is your own; your child has to have her own. If you repented and believed the Gospel, she must also declare that for herself.

Here is one example of how you can pray for your daughter:

Father, I pray for my daughter even at an early age to get to know Your Son Jesus, Who He is, and His work on the cross for her. May the Holy Spirit work on her heart, that she may long for You and open her heart for the Gospel. I thank You because no one is too young to be a follower of Christ and an instrument for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The greatest prayer of blessing that you can pray for your daughter is for her to know Christ. Christ is the greatest blessing she can receive. You can pray that she will get to know God even at a young age. We think that only adults can develop a deep relationship with God and make disciples. But what adults can do, children can also do. The magnitude might be different, but still, they can. Even if your daughter is older, you can still pray for her to know Jesus and surrender her life to Him.
