A Beautiful Family Prayer

Every Christian should have their time when they meditate on God’s Word and pray, but, at the same time, families should also gather once in a while to pray. Seeing a family that prays together is a beautiful scene to behold. It speaks of a lot of things. It could speak about how one of the parents, or both, got discipled. It also tells us that the parents have raised their kid(s) and trained them in the ways of the LORD, raising a generation that knows God. If the grandparents are there, then it means the parents were able to disciple the grandparents, or the grandparents were able to disciple the next generation, and so did the parents, as happened with Timothy. A faithful family of believers praying together is an excellent example of a Christian household.

When you pray as a family, you can pray for the concerns and petitions of each family member. It may be grace and strength for the father as he labors on a challenging project at work. The son in college may ask for prayers regarding his studies, that he may be faithful and excellent in them, while the mother also has her things to pray for. There are tons of things that you as a family can pray for.

Here is one example:

Heavenly Father, we pray that You give our father the grace and wisdom he needs when it comes to his work. We also pray for my sister. Give her the grace to be diligent and help her as she is about to take her exams. Give her the grace to be excellent in her studies. We also pray that we will continue to be faithful to serve You as a family and that all of us will continue to persevere in the faith, growing more as Christians and walking in obedience and fear of the LORD. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What is the best prayer for the family?

There are more critical things that you could pray for. The best thing you could pray for your family (assuming they are Christians already) is that Christ will always be the center of your family. Christ is the foundation of every single thing in our Christian life. Apart from Christ, we are nothing. So if you are the only Christian in your family, then the best prayer you can pray is for their salvation.

Holy Spirit, I pray that You would transform the disposition of the hearts of my family. Turn their hearts of stone to hearts of flesh so that they may receive the Gospel and bear fruit. Open their spiritually blinded eyes to the truth and give them the grace to believe the Gospel and live a repentant life, turning away from sin. No one is too far from Your grace Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How do you pray for peace in the family?

You can also pray for selfless love and peace to always abound in your family. There are no perfect Christian families, and, for sure, some conflicts happen. In those cases, genuine love should abound, and they should exercise Christlikeness toward each other and forgive each other. That is why Christ should be the center of the family, because only in Christ can a family have peace and unity despite the conflicts.

Heavenly Father, we come to You together as a family and thank You for all the grace and mercy You have given us as a family. Thank You for keeping us together. We pray that love will always abound in this family despite the conflicts. Help us always be compassionate, kind, and forgiving towards each other, being Christlike toward each other. How do you pray for protection for your home, family, and loved ones?

You can also pray for protection for your family. You can pray for physical protection like safety, but here we will focus more on the spiritual aspect. When we talk about spiritual protection, we mean protection from the enemy’s schemes. If there is one thing that the enemy always wants to destroy, it is families. How many families do you know that have been broken? You can see that it didn’t just leave the family as a whole broken, but each family member as well, and that is where issues start. The typical things that could happen are that the husband becomes an alcoholic, drugs and sex influence the teenage children, and the wife dates another man and starts another family, further complicating the situation.

Ephesians 6:10-13

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Father, we pray that You would protect us from the enemy’s schemes to destroy our family, and we declare for his plans to be trampled in the name of Jesus. We pray that we will always be a family that prays, encourages, corrects, and teaches one another. May Christ always be the center and foundation of this family, which will never crumble despite how many times it may be shaken. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Always schedule a time to pray together as a family. You don’t always have to pray for your own family; there are other things you could pray for. For example, you can pray for the gentile nations as a kind of family or for other people’s concerns. It is also important to note that men should lead their families into prayer, especially the father.
