A Firefighter’s Wife Prayer

As a firefighter’s wife, there are times when you will obviously worry about your husband. A firefighter’s job, after all, is a dangerous one. Firefighters are the bravest servicemen that we have. If there is a fire, whether big or small, people instinctively run away from it. Firefighters, on the other hand, run towards it to save anyone who may be trapped by the fire. They do their best to extinguish fires as quickly as possible. A firefighter’s duty is not just extinguishing fires on property; saving lives is also an important part of it. That is why firefighters are brave, because going into a burning structure to save someone is a dangerous task. Firefighters are there to save lives, which means that they must also respond to medical emergencies should the need arise, though there are often paramedics on scene for that. In the western part of the US, where forest fires are common, firefighters also contain those fires. Containing forest fires is not as easy as people commonly think. They even use airplanes to drop fire retardants on huge areas. Clearly, firefighters protect not only people, but also our environment. Those are the brave men and women who run towards danger to save others. That is why, as the wife of a firefighter, praying for your husband is essential. Praying for him is not something you should do weekly or from time to time, but every day as he goes to work. It is always a good idea to cover him in your prayers. If you are in Christ, your prayers are powerful. It is also important to remember that you should pray to God for your husband’s well-being out of humility, knowing that only God can keep him safe.

James 5:13-18

13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Father in heaven, I come before you to pray for the safety and well-being of my husband as he goes to work. You alone can keep Him safe, not me. I entrust my husband to You, Father. Protect Him from any danger. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I come before you to pray for the safety and well-being of my husband as he goes to work.

How do you pray for first responders?

Firefighters are considered first responders. After all, if there is a fire, who do you call? As we all know, their work is inherently dangerous, depending on the emergency they are responding to. Nonetheless, one of the things you can pray for your husband, a firefighter, is his safety. You can pray that whenever he is sent to rescue people inside a burning property, no debris shall fall upon him and that he shall not find himself trapped inside the burning building. You can also pray regarding his equipment, that it will all work fine and protect him, just as how the equipment is intended to do. Here is how you can pray for the safety of your husband:

Father in heaven, I pray for my husband as he goes to work, specifically that You shall keep him safe and sound from any harm or danger, if they respond to any emergency. If he needs to rescue someone inside a burning house or building, I pray that You will protect him from any debris that may fall upon him. I pray that he will never find himself trapped inside as he rescues someone and that his protective equipment will work exactly as it should. Protect him as he protects others. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

As mentioned, the work of a firefighter is dangerous. A single mistake may threaten the lives of the people being rescued and the firefighters themselves. That means you should pray for your husband to have the wisdom and grace he needs as he does his job. You may pray that he shall always be alert, having presence of mind and cleverness so that he may avoid any truly bad situations. You can offer this prayer as you pray for wisdom and grace for your husband:

Father in heaven, I pray that You will give [name of husband] the grace that he needs as he does his work as a firefighter. I pray that in times of emergency, especially in dangerous situations, he shall always exercise wisdom, prudence, and presence of mind. Give him the grace to think through everything and be wise in everything he does. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I come before you to pray for the safety and well-being of my husband as he goes to work.

You surely want your husband to be excellent in his job as a firefighter, not only because mistakes can be dangerous in his line of work, but also because, as a Christian, it is God whom he is ultimately serving and working for. As a follower of Christ, he ought to glorify God in all the work that he does. It is also one of the ways he can be the salt and light in the fire department. As a Christian, he is representing Christ there. If he is doing a lousy job, non-Christians will see the disconnect between being a follower of Jesus and poor work ethic. Here is how you can pray for your husband to continuously pursue excellence in the work that he does and glorify God with it:

Heavenly Father, I pray that You will give my husband grace to always be excellent in his work as a firefighter. I pray that his excellence in work shall be one of the ways for him to be the salt and light in the fire department and point people towards Christ. Remind him, Father, that it is You he is working for in the end. I pray that his motivation in his work is always to glorify You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I come before you to pray for the safety and well-being of my husband as he goes to work.

A Firefighter’s Wife Prayer

As a firefighter, your husband is already being the salt and light to the world by preserving that which is good. In his case, he is preserving life by rescuing people. However, saving people alone is not enough. The ultimate rescue that people need is a rescue from eternal death, which only Christ can do. In other words, preaching the Gospel is still the best way to be the salt and light to the world. That means you can pray for your husband to always be bold and courageous enough to preach the Gospel to his fellow firefighters and co-workers and even towards the people he helps in the line of duty, if there is an opportunity to do so.

Holy Spirit, I pray for You to give my husband the boldness and courage to preach the Gospel to his workmates and even his superiors. Give him the grace to never be ashamed of the Gospel, for the Father’s power of salvation is open to anyone who believes. Give him the opportunity to preach the Gospel to the people he helps. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I come before you to pray for the safety and well-being of my husband as he goes to work.

A Firefighter’s Wife Prayer

If your husband is not yet a Christian, the most important thing you can pray for him is not his safety on the job, but his eternal safety in Christ. In other words, you want him to repent and believe in the Gospel of Christ. Given that your husband’s line of work is dangerous, all the more, you should preach the Gospel to him and pray that he will repent and commit to following Jesus. Here is how you can pray for your husband’s salvation:

Father in heaven, I pray for You to turn the hardened heart of my husband to a heart of flesh and that You will open his spiritually blinded eyes so that he may repent and believe in Christ. Reveal to him, Father, the work of Your Son Jesus, that He died for his sins and that in Him he will find eternal life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I come before you to pray for the safety and well-being of my husband as he goes to work.

What does the Bible say about firefighters?

While the Bible does not contain specific verses about firefighters, there are Bible verses you can use to encourage your husband. One is from Matthew 5:13-16, where it is written:

Matthew 5:13-16

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

As Christians, we are called to be salt and light to the world. Being a firefighter is the kind of job that gives him a lot of opportunities to be the salt and light to others. Another verse is from Psalm 91:1-2:

Psalm 91:1-2

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Father in heaven, I come before you to pray for the safety and well-being of my husband as he goes to work.

It reminds us that it is only God we can run to and trust regarding our safety and well-being in the end. With regards to being excellent at work, here are some Bible verses that you can share with your husband:

Colossians 3:23-24

23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Father in heaven, I come before you to pray for the safety and well-being of my husband as he goes to work.

1 Corinthians 10:31

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Father in heaven, I come before you to pray for the safety and well-being of my husband as he goes to work.

One of the things that your husband likely always has in his mind is the possibility of not coming back. Obviously, you pray for his safety, but there is still a chance that he might not make it home. Firefighters are some of the bravest people in the world; it is not surprising that they would sacrifice their lives for the sake of others. With that matter, a good encouragement is from what Paul said in Philippians 1:21:

Philippians 1:21

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Father in heaven, I come before you to pray for the safety and well-being of my husband as he goes to work.

Even if he ends up sacrificing himself in order to rescue people in his line of duty, it is not a loss just because he lost his life. Instead, if he is in Christ, he can be with God already. There is no other better place to be but in the presence of God.

As a wife, know that you can always cast your anxieties towards God because He cares for you. That is where the truth of God’s sovereignty brings us comfort. We know that every atom in this world is within His governance. You can trust God, who governs everything with infinite wisdom.
