A February Prayer

The month of February is known as the “love month”. After all, Valentine’s Day is celebrated on the 14th of February. While Valentine’s Day has Catholic origins, named after Valentino, a Catholic saint, Christians don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day because of its Catholic roots. Instead, Christians celebrate the tradition of being with your significant other and celebrating the day as a special holiday of love. That is why couples may go out to dinner together, or  cook a wonderful meal with a candle-lit table at home. It doesn’t have to be fancy to make it a special day. However, celebrating Valentine’s Day is not just for lovers. For students and single professionals who lack a significant other, they may celebrate it with their family or friends and still make it a special occasion. February being a love month means that almost everywhere you go, the theme of things revolves around “love”. A romantic kind of love for the opposite sex, to be more specific. If you’re not careful, how the world projects February as a love month can make you feel insecure or even unloved. In a month where having a significant other is celebrated so openly, you might feel out of place and even lacking, which is a lie planted in you by the enemy. Even if you have a significant other, there are still things that you can pray for during February.

What to pray for when you don’t know what to say

There are many things you can pray for during February. As mentioned, February is known as a love month, which also becomes the theme of almost everything around you. Out in the world, having a significant other is highlighted during February. If you are not careful, that might cause you to be insecure about not having a partner yet. You may feel that February is lacking because you don’t have a date for the special day. Those things are dangerous things to look out for because, first of all, they are lies, and second, those are just pressures from the world. You don’t have to conform to that because you are not of this world. What we Christians conform to and abide in is the Word of God.

Psalm 16:11

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

1 John 4:7-9

7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Romans 8:35-39

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Father in heaven, I thank You because, in Christ, I am secured, affirmed, and loved. You have displayed that same love by sacrificing Your Son Jesus to die for my sins so that in Him I may find eternal life and have fellowship with You. Thank You, Father, because my security depends not on whether I have a partner or a date, but on Christ. In Your presence is the fullness of joy, and in Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We are to continually abide in God’s Word and let our minds be renewed by it. If we don’t meditate on God’s Word, we are more prone to the lies of this world. For example, the world will tell you that you are lacking something if you don’t have a date in February, but going by God’s Word, we know that is a lie because you are already complete in Christ. That is why we must always abide by the word of God whenever the world tries to influence us with lies.

John 17:17

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

Father in heaven, remind me that I ought not to conform to the pattern of this world, but rather, I should be transformed with the renewal of my mind by the Holy Spirit’s work in me and by constantly abiding in Your Word. May I never be influenced by what the world says, but only by what Your Word says. Help me to abide in the truth continually. In Christ, I have joy that shall never be taken from me. He is my greatest treasure and does not have a date. In Christ, I am not lacking, but whole and complete. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Sometimes we get consumed by the lie that we need the love of others, whether that is a significant other or other people. The truth is that the only love we need can be found in Christ alone. You may find a partner and be loved very much, but that kind of love will never complete and satisfy you. The only kind of love that can satisfy us is given by someone eternal, which is God. That kind of love is made available to us in Christ. The love that we receive from God is an “agape” kind of love, the highest form of love. It is a selfless and sacrificial kind of love that seeks the well-being of others. We can’t love God and others with an “agape” kind of love unless we first receive it from God. We receive it if we are in Christ.

Psalm 86:15

But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

John 7:37-39

37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Romans 5:8

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

Ephesians 2:4-5

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

1 John 4:19

We love him, because he first loved us.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ. Thank you because your love has saved me from eternal death. It is also Your love alone that satisfies me. Always remind me, Father, to seek love, not from anything or anyone, but from You, because in Christ I am loved. Even if I am not in a relationship, I am still satisfied in Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

If you are in a relationship, then the things you pray to God may be different. These prayers are prayers that you should pray all the time for your relationship, not just during February. One of the things you can pray for is for yourself and your girlfriend/boyfriend to always pursue purity and holiness in your relationship and that both of you shall continuously glorify God in it.

Psalm 119:9

Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

1 Corinthians 6:18

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

1 Corinthians 10:31

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

1 Timothy 4:12

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

Hebrews 13:4

Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me and [name of boyfriend/girlfriend] the grace to always pursue purity and holiness in your relationship. Help us to be wise in everything that we do and see to it that we always uphold our boundaries so that we may preserve ourselves and keep our marriage bed pure. I pray that our relationship shall be a good example towards other Christians, as well as those who are not. May we always glorify You in our relationship. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

If you are a man and you are dating someone, then you know that your relationship’s end goal is marriage. That is something that you can pray for. You can pray for God to give you the wisdom and discernment to know when to propose to your girlfriend. You can also pray to God for the provision and grace you need to prepare for that new season of your life.

James 1:5

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me the wisdom and discernment to decide when I should propose to [name of girlfriend]. While we are not yet in the season of marriage, I pray that You will prepare me not just financially, but also in attitude and character. Remind me, Father, that dating has a purpose and that its purpose is marriage. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What do you say when you pray for someone?

If you are still single, finding a spouse is something you can pray for. It is not something you can only pray for in February, but anytime. One of the best things you can pray to God for as you look for a spouse is for God to grant success in your desire to find a spouse. A good example we have is from Genesis 24:12, where Abraham’s servant prays to God for success while looking for a wife for Isaac.

Genesis 24:12

And he said O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

Genesis 24:40

And he said unto me, The Lord, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father’s house:

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

Of course, in our context, men should look for a spouse and pursue a woman. The example of Abraham’s servant also shows us that we are to ask God for guidance when looking for a spouse. While men are the ones who should pursue, women can also get to know men in the church by being friends. From that, those women will know whether to pray for a man to become her husband or not. Whether you are a man or a woman, you will need God’s guidance as you look for a spouse and decide whether to pursue them or not.

Father in heaven, I pray that you will grant me success as I look/pray for a spouse. Guide me, Lord, so I may always uphold Your standards when choosing a spouse, and that I shall only date someone who is also in a covenant relationship with You. Remind me, Father, to never be unequally yoked with an unbeliever and always date with a purpose. Help me guard my heart, for it is the wellspring of life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are gracious and merciful and have shown me love through Christ.

A February Prayer

All of the things above will make sense only if a person is a Christian. Only those in Christ understand why they ought to be pure and holy until they are married and why sex is only for the married. Only Christians know the truth that they are loved and satisfied in Christ. That makes Christians different from non-Christians. Even if they have no partner at all, Christians do not feel insecure or lacking. Non-Christians, on the other hand, experience the opposite because they are of the world. If you’re not a Christian, the best thing to do before thinking of dating is to understand the Gospel of Christ, repent and believe in the person and work of Christ.
