There are many different reasons why one may hunt. It could be a hobby. Some people have properties like ranches or log cabins in remote places, and one of their activities is hunting. They also consume what they hunt and make good use of every part of the animal. Hunting could be an activity and a way to have food for others. At times, hunting could even be sanctioned by the governing body itself if there is animal overpopulation. Nonetheless, depending on your reason for hunting, there are several things you could pray for, especially regarding the inherent dangers of hunting.
Heavenly Father, whenever I go out to hunt, protect me from any form of danger, and may I have a fruitful hunt. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Why Should You Be Concerned When Hunting?
We pray when we go hunting or for other hunters because we have hunting-related concerns. Hence, we lift those concerns to God in prayer. However, why should we have any concerns when hunting at all? Isn’t it just tracking and looking for prey and humanely taking their lives? Hunting is not as simple as that. Many factors may make hunting more dangerous.
Depending on where you hunt, you may not necessarily be just the hunter but also the prey. While you hunt for deer, moose, and other animals, there may be other predators or dangerous animals out there. For sure, you have already taken that into account as you hunt. But still, it is a real danger that exists. Another concern you may have is the environment, like the terrain, weather, and every other environmental factor out there. Those factors may make hunting dangerous. For example, if the terrain is not flat, you must be careful as you navigate the area, or you’ll injure yourself.
Aside from the dangers of hunting, having a fruitful hunt is also a significant concern, especially if it is your source of food. Just as we pray to God to help us in every other important matter in life, we also ask Him for His help as we hunt, knowing that it is essential.

How Should We Pray to God About Hunting?
As hunters, it is essential to know that we pray to God out of a posture of humility. We come before God in prayer because we depend on Him. From Him, through Him, and to Him are all things (Romans 11:36 For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.). The attentiveness and sharp mind that we need when hunting, the opportunity to find good prey, being able to return safely, and having a successful hunt are all because of God and from God. Hence, we come to Him in prayer (Hebrews 4:16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.).

A Hunter’s Prayer
There is no exact time when you should pray. You can pray and commit the hunting you are about to do to God as you set out. You can even pray while hunting as you follow some tracks or if you have some concerns in mind while taking a break. In fact, even earlier, when preparing for hunting, you can pray to God regarding your preparations.
Lift to God any concerns you may have regarding hunting. You may be concerned about your safety. Pray that no accidents or injuries will happen, whether in setting traps, navigating the terrain, or even when it comes to hunting the animal. Whatever those prayer requests, lift them to God in prayer (Philippians 4:6-7).
Father in heaven, as we set out to hunt for game, I pray that we will be able to have a successful hunt and have food for the coming winter. Give us good game that will provide us the food we need. Keep us safe from any harm or danger. Let there be no accidents nor injuries to any of us. I pray for good weather while we hunt. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

As you hunt, remember that you pray to God because you are depending on Him for everything. Even the fact that you were able to find good game in a vast environment is God’s provision and providence upon you. Also, do not forget to thank Him after having a successful hunt (1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.).
