A Military Wife Prayer For The Deployed

The wife of a man who serves in the military is likely to be concerned about the well-being of others. She knows the inherent dangers of being deployed to any part of the world where there are potential or existing conflicts. Hence, as she relates to and understands the concerns of her husband, she also understands that those same dangers apply to everyone else in the military who is deployed.

Father in heaven, I pray for the well-being of military personnel, especially those deployed to areas of conflict and combat. Keep them safe and sound. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Making Supplications for All

A wife whose husband is serving in the military and is currently on deployment is not limited to praying for her husband alone. She can also pray for her husband’s fellow service members and the entire force being deployed, from the top brass officers down to the lowest ranking service members.

In Philippians 4:6-7, the Bible tells us that if we have any prayer requests, including any concern regarding our spouse on deployment, we are to lift them to God. However, we can also be concerned about other service members who are on deployment and lift to God in prayers our concerns for them. In (1 Timothy 2:1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people), it is written that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for all people. Hence, don’t just intercede and pray for the safety and well-being of your husband. Pray also for those who are on deployment.

The prayers you say for those in deployment make a difference. There is power as you intercede for the military officers, those in combat, those assigned in logistics, and any other military men and women on deployment. In (James 5:16  Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.), it is written that the prayer of a righteous man has power and is effective. Being in Christ, we are justified and righteous in the eyes of God. Therefore, the prayers we say as we intercede for those abroad on deployment really make a difference.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because every prayer I give for those in deployment impacts Christ, and my prayers have power. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How Can I Pray for Those on Deployment?

Generally speaking, the prayers you say for others won’t differ significantly from the prayers you say for your husband. Just as you pray for his safety, well-being, emotional, mental, and physical health, and other concerns, you can also pray for the same when it comes to other military service members.

However, there are additional differences depending on whom you are praying for. For example, suppose you are praying for military officers, like those involved in planning missions and objectives. In that case, you can pray for wisdom upon them as they strategize and plan missions. Hence, the steps you can take are first knowing or deciding whom you are praying for and thinking about what particular areas of concern you can focus on.

Consider setting a specific time to pray solely for those on deployment so that you can make a regular practice of it. You may even set an alarm. You can also include praying for those on deployment whenever you pray for your husband. It all depends on whenever you want to pray.

Lord, just as I pray for the safety and well-being of my husband, I also pray for the safety and mental well-being of those who are on deployment. I pray for his superiors that as they plan, you will give them the wisdom to come up with strategies that have minimal casualties. Keep those who are serving safe so that they can come home to their families. I pray for those on deployment who don’t know Christ yet that they will get to hear the Gospel and trust in Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The most important prayer that you can say for those who are on deployment does not even regard their safety. It is for those who do not know Christ to come to know Him, believe the Gospel, and repent (John 3:16; John 6:47). It does not matter if one is promoted as a high-ranking officer or can live a long life if, in the end, they do not know Christ. It is even more critical if one is always in the face of danger in combat yet does not know Christ. Our most significant problem is not our political conflicts but sin. Only Christ can help us with sin and save us from it (Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord.).
