Bible Verses About Leadership

For people who want to become great leaders, reading Bible verses about leadership is a must. The world gives us myriads of illustrations of how a leader should speak and behave. It is said that leadership is the act of influencing a group of people or an organization toward a certain goal. Throughout history, we can find numerous great leaders. The question is, what makes a leader great? The sad thing about some groups of people or nations is that even if their leader is a dictator and reigns in evil supremacy, they still call their leaders great and commendable. And while it is true that there are secular leaders who have genuine concern and compassion for the people and have done admirable deeds, great and exemplary leaders are only those who fear the Lord.

What makes Christian leaders a cut above the rest is that they worship the One True God. The God that they serve is real, sovereign, omnipotent, and omniscient. True Christian leaders recognize that they are weak without God and totally dependent on God. Because Christian leaders worship God, it is their goal to make sure that they please Him. And pleasing God means following and loving His commandments. Christian leaders follow the Lord’s commands and decrees; he or she understands that it is for their own good and the good of all people. They know that all the commandments of the Lord are good. Since the Christian leader worships the one True God and embraces His commandments, the people and nation are secured.

It is said that “The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; he guides it wherever he pleases” (Proverbs 21:1). Great leaders of God are gifted to inspire, coordinate, and organize the actions of his or her people. Since his or her leadership is empowered by God, he or she is also able to empower people. Regardless of how big or small his or her followers are, a Christian leader is always joyful in pleasing the Lord and doing His will. The joy in his or her leadership transmits to the people. The leader’s zeal and passion for serving the Lord are imparted to the people. The people are blessed and happy because they walk in the light of God’s presence. And since these great leaders inspire us to love God, “all things then work together for good” (Romans 8:28).

Bible Verses About Leadership

The Word of God often uses the analogy of a shepherd to highlight the relationship between the leader and the followers. It is the responsibility of the good shepherd to make sure that his flock is safe. He provides guidance, provision, and protection for his people. The goal of this shepherd is not to satisfy his needs or wants. Christian leaders are not motivated to earn more riches and become more popular, but rather they want to serve and improve the condition of their people. And Jesus Christ is the embodiment of these exceptional and extraordinary leadership qualities. Bible verses about leadership point us to Christ Himself.

There is no selfishness in Jesus Christ, and His words and deeds are always for the good of His people. He is humble and is always ready to serve His people. And what makes the leadership of Jesus Christ even more praiseworthy is that He laid down His life for the sheep (John 10:15).
