A Good Prayer To Say For Help

The Christian journey is not without its challenges. Challenges, trials, and difficulties are the realities of life and are reflected on the Christian journey. That is why in James 1:2-3, the apostle James exhorts us that whenever we encounter trials, we are to consider them joyfully because we know that those trials are not there to destroy us but are instead being used by God to make us steadfast and more Christlike. However, the Bible also says that we are not to face all those challenges and trials in our Christian lives alone. Rather, we are to humble ourselves and seek God’s help.

Father in heaven, whenever I face challenges and trials on this Christian journey, remind me to never be strong in myself but to instead be strong in You and seek Your refuge. Give me the grace to be humble and to always cast my burdens on You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What Does The Bible Say About Being Helpless?

Psalm 46:1 shows us who God is whenever we encounter challenges and difficulties and find ourselves feeling helpless. This verse says that God is our refuge and strength and our very present help when we are in trouble. This means that whenever we need help, we are to run towards God, our fortress and refuge. If we make God our refuge, we shall not fear whatever comes before us, knowing that He is the One whose sovereignty holds all things together. We shall also behold His works in how He works everything for our benefit, even the trials and challenges we go through (Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.)

The Bible reveals God as our fortress and refuge, to whom we can run and ask for help. It depicts God as someone whom we can ask for guidance whenever we are in a helpless situation. Have you ever been in a situation where you feel helpless and don’t know what to do? While running to God and seeking His help should be our first response, we can ask God for wisdom, guidance, and discernment whenever we encounter such situations. In (Psalm 25:9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.), it is written that God leads the humble in what is right and teaches the humble in His ways.

All this seeking of God when we need help starts from the heart, which holds the posture of humility. In Psalm 25:9, God guides and shows the way to those humble enough to acknowledge that they need God’s guidance. In the same way, a prayer where one seeks God for help is humble enough to acknowledge that they are helpless on their own and that only God can help them. That is why, in 1 Peter 5:6-7, it is written that we are to humble ourselves and cast our cares to God. It all starts with humility.

How Can We Pray If We Are In Need Of Help?

The practical application of seeking God’s help and guidance is praying before God. In Hebrews 4:16, it is written that in Christ, we have the confidence to draw before God’s throne of grace and ask for His grace and mercy in times of need. Philippians 4:6-7 also says that we are not to be anxious. Instead, we are to present our prayer requests to God. As we do so, His peace, transcending all understanding, shall guard our hearts and minds. Humbling ourselves before God in times of need means coming to Him in solitude, looking up to the one from whom we know our help comes (Psalm 129:1-2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say: Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.).

Heavenly Father, I am helpless and in a situation where I don’t know what to do. In such times, I look up to You, Father, from whom my help comes. Guide me and give me the wisdom to overcome my current situation. Give me the grace to trust You in times of trials. You are the only refuge to whom I can run for help. Therefore, I shall not fear what the future holds. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:17 that when the righteous cry out to God for help, God hears them and rescues them. That is your assurance whenever you pray and ask God for help—that He hears you if you are in Christ. Ultimately, God is our good shepherd; He is always with us and takes good care of us. Wherever we find ourselves, His goodness and mercy surely follow us there, even if we feel like we’re walking amid the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:6). We can have peace that whenever we need help, God is there because He knows us fully, and that wherever we go, He will be there. We can never outrun His presence (Psalm 139:1-12).
