There are always aspects of our nation’s society that need to be addressed. For example, let’s say a rise in drug abuse is already an issue and, therefore, will be something we can pray for healing as a nation. Drug abuse is on the rise and is like cancer in our society, so we pray for healing regarding such issues.

Father in heaven, I pray that You would heal our nation of the problems it has, whether they’re from the inside or the outside. Address the issues that must be addressed in our nation down to the basic unit of society, our nation’s families. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What Is a Healing Prayer for Our Nation?

A healing prayer for our nation could be any prayer that we pray to address a particular issue our nation has that is like a sickness. As mentioned above, “healing” or “sickness” here is more of a figure of speech rather than a reference to the actual spread of an epidemic or pandemic when we pray for healing as a nation.

What are those issues that you could pray for in the healing of your nation? Those are the issues that, unless addressed, could eventually destroy our society. For example, the rise of pornography is one of the issues that must be addressed and of which the nation must be healed. Due to the rise of technology, access to pornographic content has become easier. However, like some sicknesses and diseases, pornography is something that may seem harmless at first but slowly affects society in general down the road. One of its negative effects is how it badly can affect a marriage. Some studies show that pornography use before and during marriage contributes to divorce rates. It also affects men by causing them to want instant gratification rather than pursue more meaningful things in life such as courting a woman, marrying her, and building a family.

Those issues, or “illnesses,” for which our nation would need healing, are many. They range from current liberal ideologies in which students are indoctrinated with lies about their identity to the states and groups of people who support abortion, to people of different races and ethnicities hating each other, and many more problems. Those are the issues that, just as with any sickness left unaddressed, will eventually devastate our nation. Therefore, we pray for those issues before God’s throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). (Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16)

How Can I Pray a Healing Prayer for Our Nation?

While you can pray a healing prayer for your nation by asking God to heal your nation of pornography addiction, hate among different races and ethnicities, the irresponsible devaluing of life through abortion, and many other things, the best healing prayer for your nation is when you pray that the Gospel shall be proclaimed and that the people would repent and follow Christ.

While you can pray that abortion laws would be abolished, that there will be peace among the people, and that pornography shall decline, this doesn’t address the very root of those problems, which is sin. Sin is the worst sickness that we have. Therefore, we pray for the Holy Spirit to give grace to the believers; to be the salt and light in whatever town, city, or state they are in, and be bold to preach the Gospel (Matthew 5:13-16)(Romans 1:16). (For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16)

The Gospel, or the work of Jesus on the cross, is the only thing that can address man’s problem of the sin that lies in the very hearts of people. Sin is a heart problem; one just as serious as pornography, hate amongst different people, abortion, identity issues, etc. but which no amount of laws and good works will be able to address. This is how, as we learn in the Bible, Israel, despite having so many laws, still fell short because it was sin that lay at the heart of their trouble (Mark 7:14-23)(For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23) (There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. Romans 3:11).

However, the Gospel of Christ addresses the problem of sin. Christ lived the life we should have lived and died the death we should have died. He paid the penalty for our sins at the cross. He didn’t stay dead but rose from the grave after three days, proving that He is indeed the Son of God (Ephesians 2:1-9). Because of that, anyone who believes in Him and His work receives forgiveness, resurrects with Him (gains eternal life), and is justified in the eyes of God. If we are in Christ, we are redeemed or bought back from the slavery of sin and, therefore, are freed from its bondage (Romans 8:2)(Galatians 5:1). (For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2) (Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1)

Father in heaven, with all the sickness that our nation currently has in the different aspects and sectors of society, I pray that the Gospel would proliferate even more. Holy Spirit, I pray that You would cause every Christian in our nation to be bold in preaching the Gospel—never being ashamed of it for it is Your power of salvation to anyone who believes and addresses every sickness against which our nation needs healing. Soften the people’s hearts and open their spiritual eyes so they may repent and believe the Gospel. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

A healing prayer for your nation is praying for the Gospel to proliferate and be proclaimed because only the Gospel can cure all our issues. The root of these issues is sin, and the Gospel not just cures us of sin but also sets us free. It gives us the grace to live godly, upright, and self-controlled lives (Titus 2:11-12).
