A Christian Prayer Against Anxiety

Anxiety can affect anyone, even the believers of Jesus Christ. Know that you are not alone in your experience. 1 Peter 5:9 reminds us that we are to resist the devil and stand firm in our faith because believers worldwide are suffering many of the same things each day. When you feel anxious and every negative voice, thought, and imagining rushes through your mind, run to the Scriptures that renew your mind and encourage your soul. Jesus said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” He also said in Matthew 11:28 to cast all your burdens upon Him, and He will give you rest. You can pray these Scriptures in this manner:

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of peace of mind and heart. I don’t have to be anxious, troubled, or afraid, for You give me Your peace. I offer all my burdens, worries, anxieties, and fears to You LORD. I surrender everything, and I receive Your promise of rest. Amen.

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of peace of mind and heart.

As you pray and declare these Scriptures, you will surely feel the Holy Spirit’s comfort lifting every feeling and thought that causes anxiety. Let the Word of God fill your thoughts and mind, which will cause your emotions and feelings to change. Let the life-giving Spirit breathe upon your soul through the Word of God.

Anxieties often come from our imagination and thoughts that cause our feelings to be unstable. Palpitations and bodily symptoms begin to appear because our mind is running wild, and the enemy takes advantage of the situation. Whenever you feel anxious or afraid, run to the Word of God and start praying the Scriptures, start declaring them, and the devil will flee from you!

What God says about fear and anxiety

You can read in the Bible that fears and anxieties are not from God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. The Apostle Peter also said that we are to cast our anxieties to God because He cares for us (see 1 Peter 5:7). The Bible is clear that both fear and anxiety are not for us to bear or accept as part of our lives, but they must be renewed and surrendered unto the LORD.

Fears and anxieties take root in our mindset and our thoughts, which affect our perspectives and way of living. It causes negativities from within, but it also manifests in the body, and our health may begin to decline. Most people run to medicine to treat anxiety, thinking that these medical drugs will help. The truth is that medication can only help temporarily; afterward, your fears and anxieties come back and simply continue to grow.

The true antidote to fears and anxieties is renewing your mind with God’s eternal Words. When you read the Word of God on a daily and consistent basis, His Word begins to affect the way you think, feel, and perceive life. After all, the Word of God is a double-edged sword that can cut between soul and spirit, joint and marrow. It is alive and powerful enough to expose the heart’s and mind’s depths. His Word can bring deliverance and freedom to your soul as you commit to spend time meditating and renewing your mind with His Word.

If you can commit to taking medicine prescribed by doctors daily and on time, you can surely commit to spending time reading the Word of God. The One who gives life is He who is able to heal you, deliver you, and set you free from anxieties and fears through Christ Jesus.

Here are some powerful Scriptures that you can meditate on, pray and declare when fears and anxieties creep in:

  1. Philippians 4:6-7

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of peace of mind and heart.

How do Christians treat anxiety?

According to their new nature in Christ, Christians walking according to their identity and authority in Christ Jesus will treat anxiety like an enemy. John 10:10 says that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. Anxiety steals your peace, kills your joy and hope, and destroys your well-being mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. How do you pray against anxiety? You have the authority in Christ to command it to leave. You can say it in this manner:

In the mighty name of Jesus, I command this anxiety to leave!

I don’t accept you and be gone from my life, in Jesus’ name!

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of peace of mind and heart.

On the other side of anxiety, when you engage in intercessions and spiritual warfare, it is often a sign of what God wants to pray for in a given situation, to a particular person, and so on. For instance, if you know you don’t have any anxieties, and during your prayer time, the Lord gave you an impression of a particular person in mind, and suddenly you feel anxious, it is God’s way of saying He wants you to pray for that person. As you inquire and seek God for His will for that person, you can then begin to declare peace, life, joy, protection, and so on to that person. Here is an example:

In the mighty name of Jesus, I declare peace of mind and heart to my brother/sister right now. Anxiety be gone, in Jesus’ name!

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of peace of mind and heart.

Or you can declare God’s Word that counteracts anxiety. For example, Jeremiah 29:11 promises a wonderful future. You can pray in this manner:

Thank You Father, for Your plans are good and wonderful for my friend. He has a bright hope and a future in You and I know that you never intend any harm or evil to come near him and his family, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Anxiety must be discerned when you are engaged in spiritual warfare and intercessions and, at the same time, as Christian anxiety is not part of the new man in Christ Jesus, it must be cast out.

May God bless you in all your endeavors and give you peace at all times, in Jesus’ wonderful name.
