A Prayer For My Sick Dog

Saying a prayer for your sick dog is much like praying for a sick friend, family member, or someone else you love. After all, dogs are not just animals and pets but a part of our families. God is glorified when we care and look after our pets because that is His will. Proverbs 12:10 says, “A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.”

Heavenly Father, I lift unto You my sick dog. You know how much I care and love my dog. Thank You for healing him and making him whole again through Jesus Christ. I speak life and complete restoration upon my dog, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

1. Pray according to your authority in Christ Jesus

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:8, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” To those who believe and follow Jesus Christ, He has given them the power to heal the sick. This doesn’t just apply to sick human beings but to all God’s living creatures. So, as you lay your hand on your sick dog, you can pray healing over your dog in this manner:

In Jesus’ name, I speak healing upon my dog! Restoration be upon you. Amen.

Or you may also rebuke and cast out sickness and the work of evil in your dog’s life:

In Jesus’ name, I rebuke the work of the enemy upon my dog! I command this sickness to leave! Amen.

You may or may not instantly see results, but as you constantly stand firm in your faith and in the power of the name of Jesus, which brings life and healing, you can expect God to powerfully move in the situation. 

2. Pray the Scripture

Praying the Scripture is decreeing and declaring what God says in His Word. So, if your dog is sick, you can ask the Holy Spirit to help in giving you revelations of God’s word that you can decree and pray over your sick dog. For instance, Psalm 50:10-11 says, “For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.” To make this into a prayer for your sick dog, you can say it in this manner:

Heavenly Father, You are the Maker and Creator of my dog, according to Your Word. He is yours, and he belongs to You. I know that everything that comes from You is life-giving, victorious, and whole in Christ Jesus. Thank You for making my dog whole and giving him perfect health, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

As you partner with the Holy Spirit in studying and meditating on God’s Word, there are many other Scriptures He may reveal to you that you can utter and decree in the name of Jesus.

3. Pray using the power of words

Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” It means that whatever we speak with our tongue, it either brings life or death. Similar to the first two points, you can speak the Words of God in prayer, pray authoritatively in the name of Jesus and speak life, and pray specific prayers (How to be Specific in Prayer) to address your dog’s illness. For instance, if your dog has no appetite, you can speak life upon its appetite:

In Jesus’ name, my dog will eat and have the appetite to eat again. I command his body to function properly. Amen.

If your dog has a fever, you can speak life upon its body:

In Jesus’ name, I command this fever to leave my dog! I speak life and proper function upon all his bodily organs. Amen.

As you pray without ceasing and trust that God is working as you pray, be at peace and do not worry about your sick dog. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
