How to Pray for Your Family

Each family is designed by God to be a blessing to one another and to the world. You have a mother to nurture and care for the family, a father to provide, love, and lead the family, and children to bring joy to the parents. Similarly, siblings are there to support each other and love one another. While God wants every family to be blessed, the enemy, on the other hand, aims to kill, steal, and destroy families. That is why it is so important to keep your family in your prayers and let God stay at the center of your household in Christ Jesus. How do you pray for your family? You can pray, in general, for individual family members, for your parents, children, or siblings. It all depends on the Holy Spirit, who leads and guides you in prayer. He may lead you to pray generally, or it can be more specific.

There are many things you can pray for your family—for blessings, protection, guidance, wisdom, the fruit of the Spirit, Christlikeness, salvation, financial breakthroughs, provision, good health, healing, and so many other things. As you partner with the Holy Spirit in praying for your family, He may even reveal secret things to you that a family member isn’t sharing, and you can then pray for that person and intercede on their behalf. If God allows it, you may share what the Holy Spirit has revealed to you to that family member, and then you both can pray about it. Partnering with the Holy Spirit in all things always brings the best result, as you are praying the will of God for your family. You may also pray for what you desire for your family, but be sure that God’s will and His desires for your family and a family member are your priority, because God’s ways and thoughts are always better than ours. You may deeply love your family, but God loves them even more deeply, and no one can beat Him to it.

It is essential that you allow the Holy Spirit to speak into your mind and heart before you begin your prayer time. That way, He gets to lead you in your prayer, to be sure that you are hitting the right targets and not missing out on His will for your family. Praying for your family is such a blessing, and you are a great blessing to them as you seek God each day to uplift your family in the presence and throne of God in Christ Jesus. Here is a simple prayer you can pray for your family:

Heavenly Father, I lift my household up to You. Thank You for Your grace, kindness, and love for each family member. You never fail to guide us, protect us, provide for us and bless us according to our individual needs. I pray that Your hand of favor, blessing, honor, and good health will always be upon my family, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

How to Pray for Your Family

How do you pray for your family in difficult times?

It can be challenging when one’s family goes through difficult times. It can make you worry, fearful, and doubtful about what tomorrow may bring. However, God’s Word is always your anchor and hope. It is important that your mind stays fixed on the LORD, keeping God’s promises close to your heart, and meditating on His Word day and night. That way, as you pray for your family in times of difficulty, you won’t pray out of fear, worries, and doubt, but out of full faith and trust in the Lord Jesus, who is faithful in keeping His Word.

To Pray effectively and fervently for your family, try not to focus on the problem or situation when praying. Instead, magnify the goodness of the LORD, acknowledge His faithfulness, and believe deeply in the power of His name. The more you worship God in difficult times, the more you’ll be able to see His will clearly and hear His voice with regards to your family’s situation. Also, you may declare a Scripture that will speak right through your family’s situation and needs. Declaring and praying God’s Word is powerful and effective, because heavenly angels are only moved by the Word of God. The moment you speak the Word of God, heaven moves for you. (You can look through the article, “A Biblical Prayer,” if you want to learn how to pray the Scripture). For instance, if a family member is sick, find Scriptures about healing and declare the healing power of God, or if your family is in danger of any kind, declare God’s protection in prayer. Here is another article about offering A Family Protection Prayer.”

More importantly, as mentioned, it is always best to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into praying, especially when you are going through difficult times. When fear, worry, anxiety, and doubt strike you, it can dull your spiritual senses and make it difficult to discern God’s will for your family. You may even begin to doubt God and His plans and purposes. That is why it’s best to always rely on the Holy Spirit, praying at all times in the Spirit, so that the peace of God guards your mind and heart in Christ Jesus.

What is a daily prayer for your family?

Praying every day for your family is essential. It shows that God is your ultimate source of peace, protection, blessing, wisdom, and strength in the Lord. Running to God first thing in the morning and seeking Him out for everything that matters to your family is a sign of dependency and trust in the Lord. He is pleased when His children run to Him, inquiring at His throne and trusting Him with all their hearts. A daily prayer for your family can be different every time. Sometimes, you may not know what to pray for, but that’s okay, as the Holy Spirit always helps in our weaknesses, including when we don’t know what to pray for (see Romans 8:26).

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans

How to Pray for Your Family

As you let Him lead you in daily prayer for your family, He may reveal different things you should pray for each day. It can be about your father’s job, your sister’s studies, your mom’s emotional and physical well-being, your little brother’s desires, and so many other things. It is always enjoyable to partner with the Holy Spirit in prayer, as you are privileged to be entrusted with the secrets of God.

Sometimes the Holy Spirit will direct your mind to a particular Scripture that you can declare for your family. It can also be a Scripture for a specific family member. As you let Him lead you in praying for your family each day, you’ll be amazed at how God moves your household in blessings. This works best if you set aside a specific time of the day to spend in prayer for your family, so that you can hear God clearly without any other distractions. However, suppose that you are unable to find the time within your busy schedule. In that case, you can pray for biblical and general things for your family such as good health, the daily presence of God, heavenly wisdom in your decision-making, the fruit of the Spirit, and so much more.

Why do you need to pray for your family every day? As discussed, while God’s plan is to bless every family, the enemy’s plan is to destroy every family. The moment you wake up, a spiritual battle is already taking place for each member of your family. You never truly know what is going on with each person’s mind. Sometimes, the enemy lies to deceive and influence your perspectives, such as making you think that you are not good enough, unloved, a failure, or that you will make a mess again, and be a disappointment to your parents. These lies might be taking place in the mind of your spouse, your child, your parents, or your siblings. That is why covering your family each day in prayer and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you into praying for them exposes the works of the enemy. In the Bible, God exposed the plans of Israel’s enemies to the prophet Elisha as he prayed to God. As a result, the enemy’s plan never prospered, because God was with Elisha and the Israelites.

Your prayers are powerful, and every time you pray for your family, heaven moves. Your family may not know it, but your prayers impact their lives radically and spiritually. The Holy Spirit testifies it in their spirit, and your prayers draw them closer to both you and God. So, keep on praying for your family without ceasing, keep seeking God above all else, and all other things will be added to your family, in Christ Jesus’ name.
