A Father’s Prayer For Adult Daughter

As a Christian father, you may care for and love your daughter as much as you want, but in the end, it is God who ultimately takes care of your daughter. You may give her pepper spray, teach her self-defense, set curfews, and instill many other things to keep her safe, but ultimately, it is not you who keeps her safe, but God. It’s the same when it comes to every aspect of her wellbeing. That does not mean that you should not do anything for your daughter because, but in the end, it is God who takes care of her. By all means, do everything that you can as a father to make sure that your daughter has a good life, but remember that you have limitations. You are not there for your daughter 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There are times when it will be hard for you to provide something for her, but that is not so with God. That is why we must remind ourselves that everything does not hinge upon us when it comes to the safety of our daughters; instead, it all depends on God. That’s why we should always pray to God regarding our daughters. It is an act of humility showing that, in the end, we are relying not on ourselves, but on God, for everything when it comes to our daughters.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Father in heaven, remind me to always depend on You when it comes to my daughter’s well-being. Remind me, Father, that her well-being does not hinge on me, but on You. Christ holds everything in the universe, and You address everything according to Your sovereignty and the counsel of Your will. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What should I pray for my daughter?

There are many things that you can pray for regarding your daughter, just as she has many needs when it comes to her well-being. However, if your daughter is not yet a Christian, then the first and most important thing you can pray for is for her to repent and believe the Gospel of Christ. She can’t have God as her dwelling place, gain peace and grace through Christ, receive provision from God, or any other blessing if she is not in Christ and saved from her sin. We have to remember that what God has for sinners is wrath. Grace and mercy can be found in Christ alone. Of course, that means you, as her father, should train her in the ways of God and raise her to become a godly woman who knows the Lord. It is your responsibility to disciple your child. That includes preaching the Gospel to her.

Here is a prayer that you can pray for the salvation of your daughter:

Father in heaven, I pray that You open the spiritual eyes of [name of your daughter] as I preach the Gospel to her so that she may see the truth of the Gospel and her need for Jesus. Work in her heart, Holy Spirit, and turn her hardened heart to a heart of flesh so that she may repent from sin and believe in the person and work of Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Provision is surely one of the things that your daughter needs. Primarily, God will provide for her through you, because you are her earthly father, but her heavenly Father can use many different ways to provide for her. Nonetheless, the point is that every provision that your daughter needs only comes from God alone. That is why you should pray to God to provide for your daughter’s needs.

Matthew 6:31-32

31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

Father in heaven, I thank You because everything comes from You and You are the one who ultimately provides for the needs of my daughter. I pray, Father, that she shall not lack in anything she needs. Thank You, because You are faithful to provide. Even in times of lack, remind her, Father, that Christ is her greatest treasure and that in Christ she can be content and still have a grateful heart. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. 

Another thing that you can pray for is her safety and protection from any harm and danger. If she is still studying, you can pray for her safety as she goes to school and returns home. If she is working, perhaps you can pray for her safety regarding the hazards involved in her work, or other possible dangers in her everyday life. You can pray this prayer for the protection of your daughter:

Heavenly Father, I pray for the safety and protection of my daughter. Protect her, Father, from any harm and danger as she travels towards her destination and even as she returns home. Keep her safe from any accidents or people with malicious intentions. Give her the grace to always be alert and aware of her surroundings. Also, protect her from any sickness and diseases. Finally, I pray for the good health of my daughter. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

If she is already a working professional, then you can pray for her love life, to always keep herself pure and holy before the LORD. You can pray that she will never date, marry, or be unequally yoked with an unbeliever.

2 Corinthians 6:14

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?

Hebrews 13:4

Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Heavenly Father, I pray that my daughter shall only date and marry a man who is a genuine follower of Your Son, Jesus. Give her the conviction never to compromise the standards You have given us and be unequally yoked with an unbeliever. I also pray that she shall keep herself pure and holy and preserve herself for marriage. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How do you pray scriptures over your child?

The best prayer that you can offer for your daughter is a prayer that comes from the Scripture. For example, let’s say the Scripture is from Colossians 3:1-2, where it is written:

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

You can pray that Scripture for your daughter like this:

Father in heaven, I pray that my daughter shall never be consumed with the temporary things of this world, but instead, I pray that she has an eternal perspective on everything and focuses on things in life that hold eternal weight. I pray that she shall always seek and set her mind on the things above, not on Earth. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Another example is this one, using the Scripture from Colossians 3:5-13:

Father in heaven, give my daughter the grace to continually put whatever is earthly in her to death. Help her always put sin to death and put on the new self that she has, in Christ, and exercise kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Give her the grace to always be compassionate at heart and forgive and bear her fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who do her wrong. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Our last example comes from several Bible verses that talk about the fear of the LORD.

Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 8:13

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Psalm 111:10

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Here is how you can turn these verses into a prayer for your daughter:

Heavenly Father, I pray that my daughter shall continue to grow in the fear of You and that she shall never delight in anything evil, but will instead  hate it, because it is an abomination before You. I pray that she will never despise correction nor instruction and that she shall always be humble and listen to our correction and instruction, as well as those of her fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. I pray that she shall always turn her feet away from evil and that everything she does is rooted in the fear of You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

If you have observed, you are praying the scriptures in a manner that they are applied. In this case, not to you, but your daughter. If you are praying for what you read in your Bible and what God commands us to be evident in your life, it is also the same prayer you pray for your daughter.
