A Daily Prayer for Christians

There are certain spiritual disciplines that Christians should consistently do every day. One is reading the Bible. Hearing God’s Word and meditating on it is not just something Christians do on Sunday when they go to church. We should always read our Bibles every day. The Word of God is likened to food, and just like it is with physical food, we cannot afford not to eat. If we don’t eat, it will weaken us, and we won’t survive very long. The same thing happens to our spirit if we neglect to eat our spiritual food. Like with normal food, we should not eat our spiritual food only once a week, but rather every day. That is why we should read God’s Word every single day. Christians mostly call this quiet time, where they set a certain time of the day to spend in solitude with God alone. Others call it devotion. Devotions are not just about reading God’s Word and meditating on them, but also praying to God. In other words, Christians should also pray to God every single day. We pray to God every day or do our devotions because we want to be nourished, not because it is a rule or tradition. We pray to God because we want to spend time with and talk to our Father. The motivation behind this is our eagerness to communicate with God.

Job 23:12

Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

1 Peter 2:2

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Colossians 3:1

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Father in heaven, I pray that I shall always be consistent in my devotions with You. I pray that I shall always fight for my time with You and always prioritize You over other things in life. Remind me, Father, why I read Your Word and pray to You daily, because I want to know more about You, grow more in your knowledge and my intimacy with You. It is not out of adherence to tradition, but out of my relationship with You through Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I pray that I shall always be consistent in my devotions with You.

A Daily Morning Prayer for Christians

How do I start my day with God?

Some Christians say that the best time to have your devotion with God (praying and reading the Bible) is in the evening. Some say it’s in the morning. Whether you have it in the morning or the evening does not matter. However, there are some benefits when you have your devotions in the morning. One is that you can read God’s Word and then meditate on it throughout the day. For example, if you read something about compassion, you should meditate on it for the whole day (not just limited to within that day, of course). If you see a friend having a problem, then it is your time to show compassion. Reading God’s Word in the morning is your spiritual breakfast. Of course, you can still read the Bible more than once a day. It’s all up to you. Another benefit of doing your devotion in the morning is that you can also pray to start your day.

Philippians 4:6

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice evermore.

17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

There are many things that You can pray to God for every day. You can thank God for sustaining You and allowing you to continue waking up. You can also thank God for the new mercies and graces that He has for you for the day. You can even thank God for good things that occurred in the previous day or week. A prayer of thanksgiving is a very good prayer with which to start the day.

Father in heaven, I thank You for this new day that You have given me. I pray that You give me the grace to live this day for Your glory in everything I do. Thank You because Your mercies are new every morning. Your grace sustains me every day. Thank you for [the things you are thankful for from the previous day or week]. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I pray that I shall always be consistent in my devotions with You.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, it is written that we are to pray without ceasing. Also, in Luke 18:1-8, the Parable of the Persistent Widow shows us that we are to ask and pray to God with persistence.

Luke 18:1-8

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.

7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Suppose you are the only Christian in your family and want your other family members to encounter Christ and follow Him. In that case, you should pray for their salvation every day, provided, of course, that you are also preaching the Gospel to them. If you are believing God for something, by all means, pray without ceasing and be persistent when praying about it. It is also important to note that God is God, and we can never twist His arm. If you are believing God for something that is not God’s will for you, then it won’t be answered, no matter how persistent you are. We must remember that God is not a genie and His wisdom is far more infinite than ours. Just as we rejoice when God answers our prayers with a “yes,” we also should be humble and submit to Him, who knows infinitely better, when He answers with a “no”. Still, this is not an excuse not to pray or believe in God for something. Praying to God is also God’s preferred way for us to ask and receive something within His will.

1 John 5:14-15

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Proverbs 16:9

A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.

Proverbs 19:21

There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.

If you are praying for your household’s salvation, here is a prayer guide that can help you pray:

Holy Spirit, I pray that You work in the hearts of my family. Open their eyes, Holy Spirit, so that they may see the truth of the Gospel and their need for Jesus. Turn their hearts of stone to hearts of flesh so that they will not be prideful, but rather humble themselves, acknowledge their sins, and receive the free gift of salvation in Christ. Give them the grace to repent and believe in the person and work of Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I pray that I shall always be consistent in my devotions with You.

There may be times when you feel like giving up because nothing seems to be happening. Remember to pray without ceasing and never give up, even if it takes years. Continue to be persistent when praying for your family.

Another thing you can pray for daily is other people’s concerns. For example, if you know of a fellow brother or sister in Christ who needs constant prayer, by all means, cover them in your prayers not just once a week or occasionally, but every single day. If someone you know is sick, pray for their healing every day until they are healed. If you are discipling someone, pray that they shall continue to grow more in their relationship with God. As Christians who ought to love others, we must remember other people in our prayers. If you can pray to God without ceasing about things you want, then you can surely pray without ceasing for what others want as well.

Ephesians 6:18

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

1 Timothy 2:1

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

Romans 1:9-10

9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

10 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.

You can pray whatever concern your fellow brother or sister in Christ has or what they believe in God for. For example, if they are praying to God for household salvation, you can pray similarly to the prayer above for their family. Here is an example of a prayer for healing that you can pray each day for someone you know is recovering:

Father in heaven, I pray for [name of the person recovering] that he/she will have a full and speedy recovery. We speak healing and recovery upon them by the power in the name of Jesus. I also pray for provision upon them or their family that they can pay their hospital bills. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

As mentioned, you can just pray for whatever concerns your brother or sister in Christ has that you can pray with them.

What is a good Bible verse for today?

As you start your day, there are some excellent Bible verses on which you can meditate that will make you grateful to God, knowing that He is always faithful towards You. One is from Lamentations 3:22-23, where it is written:

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

It is great to start the day by reminding yourself that God’s mercies are new every morning and that He is faithful every single day. This verse also brings comfort if you are going through tough times. Sometimes it is hard to face a new day, given the problems we must handle. However, even if it is hard, we know that God’s mercies are new every morning.

Another good Bible verse is from Psalm 23:6:

Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

This tells us that no matter where or in what circumstances you may find yourself today, God’s mercy and goodness are still there.

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are the one who sustains me each day, not just physically, but also spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. Whatever circumstances I may encounter today, I know that You are always with me. Your goodness and mercy follow me wherever I am. Thank You, because nothing can separate me from Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I pray that I shall always be consistent in my devotions with You.

A Daily Morning Prayer for Christians

Reading the Bible and praying to God are spiritual disciplines that we should always uphold. When we consistently practice them, it is not God who benefits, but us! We grow as Christians and receive grace from God because reading His Word and praying to Him are some of His established means for us to receive grace.
