A Beautiful Christian Prayer

Praying is an integral part of the Christian life. Praying to God is our means of communication with Him through Christ, our High Priest. We can confidently pray, knowing that our prayers will reach God because Jesus is our High Priest who mediates between God and us. If God speaks to us through His Word, the Bible, we talk to God through prayer.

1 Timothy 2:5

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

What is the greatest Christian prayer?

There are many things that a Christian can pray for, but since this is about Christian prayer, we are going to tackle praying for things that are important for a Christian to pray. There is no such thing as “the greatest Christian prayer.” However, there are greater things a Christian could and should pray for, which are more important than anything else.

You are incorrect if you think those things are God’s provisions, healing, or job opportunities. You can pray for such items, but those prayers are just for this temporary earthly life. The most important things that a Christian should pray for are things of eternity. Praying for these things of eternity is what matters, compared to prayers regarding our life here on earth.

Colossians 3:2

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Speaking of eternity, this is one sample prayer you can pray:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for granting me eternal life in Christ. Help me always keep an eternal mindset and point of view regarding everything in this temporary lifetime, Father. Help me focus not on the things of this world but on the things above. Remind me to always think in terms of eternal value because at the end of the day, what matters are not temporary things that will soon perish, but things with eternal value. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What are some good prayers to pray for?

These “things of eternity,” or things that have eternal value, are the good things to pray for. So what are these “things of eternity” that we should always pray for? One example of this is praying to always grow to be more like Jesus as each day passes. Genuine Christians are being sanctified because the Holy Spirit is in them. Our goal in life is to glorify God and Christlikeness.

Hebrews 10:14

For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

1 John 2:6

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Here is one sample prayer:

Father, I pray that I will continue to grow more in my walk with You. I pray that the fruit of the Spirit will be more evident in my life. Give me the grace to always walk in uprightness and righteousness. Help me to live a pure and holy life so that I will continue to grow more like Your Son Jesus, reflecting your image and character to others. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Another option is praying that Christ will always be your greatest treasure, above anything or anyone else. A rich person who does not have Christ may still feel empty, but a person going through financial difficulties may feel like he or she still has everything because they have Christ.

Here is one example as to how you can pray in this way:

Father, may Christ always be the greatest treasure of my heart and nothing else. In Christ are my joy and satisfaction. Only in Him can I find unsearchable riches far greater than earthly riches. I pray that my delight will always be in Your Son Jesus. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Praying for your heart is also a great option. You can pray for God always to give you the grace to guard Your heart. The heart is the wellspring of life, and can determine the direction of your life. If an idol is seated on the throne of your heart, that is a problem.

Proverbs 4:23

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Here is a sample prayer you can pray for your heart:

Heavenly Father, give me the grace to guard my heart, for it is the wellspring of life. I pray that it is always You who I will love above all else. I pray that the desires of my heart shall always be in line with Your will. Help me that my heart shall always submit to the Lordship of Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Romans 8:23-25

23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

These prayers are more important than praying for provision, healing, business opportunities, or any other earthly desire. You can skip praying for those things, but you can never skip praying for the “things of eternity” we discussed. You may be in perfect health, but your heart is full of idols. You may be rich, but you live a sinful life that is far from Christlike. The only things that matter are things that have eternal value. Everything in this temporary life is not for this life, but preparation for our eternal future.
