A Boss’ Prayer for Wisdom and Guidance

Christian managers and bosses have many opportunities to witness Christ in the corporate or secular world. One could say that they make effective missionaries or tentmakers in their workplace because they have access to people where they are working. Managers and bosses are leaders in the corporate world, meaning they lead the people under them. That is why they are called “boss”. Bosses influence their subordinates, which they can utilize for the kingdom of God. For example, as a boss, you can ask your team to start with a devotional before each weekly meeting. You, as the boss, could also lead the devotional, where you can insert the Gospel for them to hear.

As you witness Christ in the workplace, here is one prayer for you to pray:

Heavenly Father, give me the grace I need to be the salt and light on the company I work for and the people I lead. Give me the courage and boldness to preach Christ to them, and may they also see Christ in my life. I thank You, Holy Spirit, because you are the one who empowers me as I witness Christ to those who don’t know Him. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, give me the grace I need to be the salt and light on the company I work for and the people I lead.

A Boss’ Prayer for Wisdom and Guidance

What is wisdom and why is it important?

Wisdom is the application of knowledge. The Bible tells us that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. You cannot be wise if you do not fear God. Fearing God means revering God; for that reason, you always want to do what is right in His eyes. Wisdom is about doing what is right in the eyes of God.

Father, I pray that I shall always fear You. May every choice I make in life be rooted in the fear of You. Give me the grace, Father, to never be foolish, and always choose what is right in Your eyes. Help me that every knowledge I have about You and your things will not only remain as the knowledge that puffs up, but that I will also apply them in my life. Give me the grace I need, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, give me the grace I need to be the salt and light on the company I work for and the people I lead.

Here are some Bible verses that talk about wisdom.

Proverbs 9:10

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Heavenly Father, give me the grace I need to be the salt and light on the company I work for and the people I lead.

Proverbs 15:33

The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.

Heavenly Father, give me the grace I need to be the salt and light on the company I work for and the people I lead.

Proverbs 10:23

It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

Heavenly Father, give me the grace I need to be the salt and light on the company I work for and the people I lead.

As you can see, the book of Proverbs contains verses about wisdom. It is not surprising, given that it is wisdom literature. You may always meditate on the book of Proverbs regarding wisdom and find new ways to apply them in your life.

What does the Bible say about praying for wisdom?

James 1:5

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Heavenly Father, give me the grace I need to be the salt and light on the company I work for and the people I lead.

James 1:5 tells us that if we find ourselves lacking in wisdom, we should ask God, as God liberally gives wisdom to those who ask. It is important to take note of the word “generous”, which is used instead of the word “liberally” in other translations. This shows us that God is more than willing to give wisdom to those who ask.

Can we pray for wisdom?

Of course we can! James 1:5 instructs us to ask God for wisdom if we find ourselves lacking it. As mentioned above, God generously or liberally gives to those who ask. What we need to do is humble ourselves and ask God for wisdom. Here is one of the ways you can pray as you ask God for wisdom:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for being generous enough to give wisdom to those who ask. Give me the grace to always be humble and ask You for wisdom whenever I find myself lacking it. Help me to always walk in the fear of the Lord, in whom knowledge and wisdom are rooted. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, give me the grace I need to be the salt and light on the company I work for and the people I lead.

Proverbs 4:23-27

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

Psalm 119:105

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Heavenly Father, give me the grace I need to be the salt and light on the company I work for and the people I lead.

1 Corinthians 1:30

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Heavenly Father, give me the grace I need to be the salt and light on the company I work for and the people I lead.

A Boss’ Prayer for Wisdom and Guidance

Being a boss is not an easy job, especially when you witness Christ to the secular world. Asking God for wisdom and guidance is one of the best things a Christian leader can pray for. A similar example of this in the Bible is the story of King Solomon. When King Solomon was about to lead Israel after succeeding his father, David, King Solomon did not ask God for the lives of his enemies nor for riches, but instead asked God for wisdom, to discern between right and wrong. As you also pray to God for guidance, the Bible says to remember to guard your heart and always ponder the path of your feet, so that all of your ways may be sure. Meditate on God’s Word and consider doing only those things that are right before His eyes. God’s word is the lamp in our feet that guides us as we walk. Fear of the Lord is how your decisions and choices will be guided. Also, it is only through Christ and when we follow Him that we can gain wisdom, for He is the embodiment of God’s wisdom.
