A Breakthrough Prayer

All Christians have a specific breakthrough for which they are praying. When we hear the word “breakthrough”, what often comes to the mind of Christians are things like a salary increase to afford a house, an improvement in one’s recovery after a period of stagnation, or achieving something despite unlikely odds. Those things are indeed a kind of breakthrough we can pray for and ask God. However, breakthroughs are not just limited to those things. The word means far more than that. Breakthroughs are world-changing when they occur. One example is when legislation in a certain country or state that is not honoring God is removed or amended after years of being appealed to be removed. For example, abortion being illegal will significantly lessen abortion rates. These things are the real breakthroughs, because you must fight and overcome many things to “break through”, which would be impossible if not for God. When a breakthrough happens, the kingdom of darkness loses ground and territory, we get to expand God’s kingdom, and there is victory over evil.

Genesis 18:14

Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

Luke 1:37

For with God nothing shall be impossible.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

Are you praying for a breakthrough in your society? Here is one prayer you can pray for it:

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us. Nothing is too hard and impossible for You, God. Father, I pray for a breakthrough upon our society that the evil laws in Your sight will be removed and that cultures full of wickedness shall diminish. Give us the perseverance to never stop praying for breakthroughs in our society. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

How do you pray a breakthrough prayer?

You must first know what you are praying for when you pray for a breakthrough. Is it about abortion being made illegal in your state? Christians having the same freedom to be able to practice their faith as other religions? Crime rates to lower in your neighborhood? The next generation’s culture of sex to change? What makes a specific thing a prayer for a breakthrough is when it is something that is not easy to achieve, as there are many obstacles and sources of opposition along the way. That is why we need to pray for a “breakthrough” against those obstacles and oppositions. There are so many breakthroughs you could pray for. Simply look at some of your city’s or nation’s issues that should be dealt with from a Christian’s perspective.

One of the social issues that has been the source of many conflicts is the issue of racism. Here is one of the ways to pray for a breakthrough with regards to this chronic ill:

Father in heaven, I pray for a breakthrough when it comes to unity in society amongst people of different races. I pray that peace, love, and unity will overcome hate and that any racial superiority teachings shall be eliminated. I pray that all people, regardless of their race, shall think not in a hostile manner, but in a civilized and intellectual way as they resolve issues and differences. I pray for peace to overcome chaos and that facts shall still be considered, not just feelings. We pray for a society where no race thinks they are better than another or feels that the world should bow down to them, and that all of us will live in unity and appreciate one another. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How do you pray for a spiritual breakthrough?

Heavenly Father, the issues of today’s world are not just due to man’s fallenness, but also because we face the spiritual forces of evil. We speak for those strongholds of evil to be destroyed by the power of Jesus. We also pray for whatever hold the enemy has upon the people to be broken by Your grace. We thank You, Jesus, because You have overcome the world. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

When praying for any breakthrough, knowing that it has a spiritual aspect is essential. For example, if we want same-sex marriage to be abolished, the fight is not just in the congress or town halls, but also in the spiritual realm. Yes, there are sources of opposition, like politicians and communities who support same-sex marriage, which makes the goal of abolishing it hard and complicated. Still, above all, there are spiritual forces at work as well. Those forces in the works are not just politicians, but also our spiritual enemies. The Bible says that we do not only wrestle against flesh and blood, but also against the spiritual force of evil.

Ephesians 6:12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

1 John 5:19

And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

Daniel 10:12–14

12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.

You see, our spiritual enemies also have territories they want to hold, and they will fight hard for them. That is why, if we fight for something that would expand the kingdom of God, like abolishing abortion, same-sex marriage, cultural reformations, and more, it will not be easy. As in any war, we have to break through the enemy forces. That is why we need to pray for it because ultimately, it is not us but God who will break through our opposition. God is omnipotent. Nothing is too hard for Him.

How do I know my breakthrough is coming?

It is important to note that praying for breakthroughs is not easy. It takes time, and sometimes we may feel frustrated, discouraged, and prone to give up. However, we must keep on persevering. We fight by praying, and just like any warrior on the frontlines trying to break through the enemy forces, we can’t stop fighting. That means we can’t stop praying. Remember that there are spiritual enemies involved. It is warfare. However, the Bible tells us to keep praying and never lose heart. There are also times where it is not just the individual who should pray for a breakthrough, but the community itself. For example, if you are praying for a breakthrough in your city, then the church community should gather together and pray for it.

Luke 18:1

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

Matthew 18:19

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

If you find yourself giving up as you pray for a breakthrough, here is a prayer you can pray:

Father in heaven, give me the strength to persevere and never give up when praying for breakthroughs. We thank You because no matter how hard the enemy fights and opposes, his defeat has already been sealed, and he is fighting a losing battle. Give me the grace to keep praying and never lose heart, Father. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

Matthew 28:19

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

John 16:33

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

1 John 4:4

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the one who fights for us.

A Breakthrough Prayer

Praying should also be accompanied by action. We can’t expect the world to change for the better if we’re not doing anything. Ultimately, God does everything, but we still have parts to play. One important part is going out there to make disciples. Making disciples is one of the most opposed missions by the enemy because we are preaching the Gospel to people, which sets them free from the bondage of sin and brings them from the darkness into the light. As Christians, we ought to be the salt and light in the world. We must preserve that which is good and fight that which is evil.
