A Broken Relationship Prayer

A broken relationship is something no one wants to have. A broken relationship does not only mean a relationship is gone but may also mean pains, hurt, bad memories, and possibly bitterness. We should pray to God about this because only God can deal with such things. The thing affected whenever someone goes through a broken relationship is not the body but the soul.

Our response to such a situation is surrendering the broken relationship to God. If you can’t find the words, here is one prayer you can pray:

Heavenly Father, I can’t handle this broken relationship anymore. I tried to do more about it, but nothing seemed to work. Therefore, I surrender to You this broken relationship I have, and I trust You with it. I thank You because I am still whole in You no matter what happens. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I can't handle this broken relationship anymore.

Can God restore a broken relationship?

Yes, He certainly can. If God through Christ could restore our relationship with Him – which was an impossible one to restore given that our problem is sin, something that is eternal – then He certainly can restore a broken relationship. Throughout the Bible, God is known as a God of restoration. He restored Israel, which was destroyed because of their sin. In our context, God restored us and redeemed us in Christ. We can also apply this concept for the mending of broken relationships with our family members, realizing that we shall all be united in love and Christ. Of course, we can also pray for the restoration of broken relationships with other people. However, we have to trust God’s infinite wisdom regarding this. In other words, there are times when a relationship could be restored but would be better ended than to remain the way it was. For example, it is best to close the relationship even if you have healed, let go of bitterness, and forgive your abusive boyfriend/girlfriend or friend who only took advantage of you. That does not mean you still harbor bitterness—it’s just that it is the wise thing to do. It is also important to note that each broken relationship case is different. Sometimes you are the one who caused the break, sometimes the other person was, or both of you contributed.

2 Corinthians 5:18

And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

Jeremiah 24:6

For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

A Broken Relationship Prayer

If there is a broken relationship that you are praying for God to restore, here is one of the ways you can pray for it:

Heavenly Father, I pray for the restoration of my relationship with my loved one. I pray that we will overcome with love and grace whatever pain or hurt we feel. Give us the grace to let go of any bitterness and release forgiveness to each other instead. This broken relationship may seem impossible to be restored, but nothing is too hard for You. I thank You, God, because You restore that which is in ruins. Work in our hearts, Holy Spirit, and give us the graces we need. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I can't handle this broken relationship anymore.

Why should we pray for those who hurt us?

We should not only pray but love those who hurt us because it is the most Christlike thing to do. Christ Himself was hurt by others, and when we say “hurt,” we mean it is an extreme kind of being hurt. He was tortured. Yet He still humbled Himself on the way to where He was crucified, and He still died for our sins. Also, Jesus has commanded us to forgive others, love our enemies, and pray for those who persecute us.

Matthew 18:21-22

21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Matthew 5:38-42

38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Matthew 5:43-48

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

It is indeed hard to love and pray for our enemies, and we will need God’s grace for it. Here is one of the ways you can pray for God’s grace:

Father, it is hard to love and pray on my own for those who have hurt me. However, the right and Christlike thing to do is forgive, pray, and be gracious to them. Give me the grace and the strength that I need, God, to be able to do those things. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I can't handle this broken relationship anymore.

How do you pray for someone you hate?

Praying for someone you hate is similar to how you pray for those who have hurt you. Here is one prayer you can pray:

Father, I pray that You would give me the grace to let go of any bitterness and hatred toward a person who has wronged me. Help me to forgive and let go no matter how hard that is. Remind me of how I also was a recipient of Your wrath, yet in Christ, You forgave me and even adopted me as Your child. In Christ, I can forgive because I am forgiven. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I can't handle this broken relationship anymore.

What does God say about hurt feelings?

Just because the Bible says that we should forgive and love those who have wronged us does not mean that our emotions of being hurt and in pain are not valid or to be disregarded. True enough, people have wronged us. They have done something unfair. It was painful. God knows all of that, and as you go through those hurts and pains, remember that God is with You and is always near You. God is also the One Who will heal You and bind up your wounds. Whenever we feel pain and hurt, God wants us to come running toward Him because He is our Father. Friends may leave you, but He will never leave you nor forsake you. He is the one who sustains you and carries you in His arms.

Psalm 34:18

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Heavenly Father, I can't handle this broken relationship anymore.

Psalm 147:3

He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

One of the things you can pray for is your healing and comfort. Here is a guide as to how you can pray for this:

Heavenly Father, I can't handle this broken relationship anymore.

A Broken Relationship Prayer

Heavenly Father, You know every single pain and hurt that I have. I thank You, God, because You are the One Who looks after me and the One Who comforts me. You never leave me nor forsake me. You are my refuge and strong tower. Even if it feels like I am walking in the valley of the shadow of death, Your rod and Your staff comfort me. Your mercies are there. Heal me, Lord, of all the pain and hurt that others have inflicted on me. You are the One Who restores me and makes me whole. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I can't handle this broken relationship anymore.

God is just. Whenever someone has wronged you unjustly, forgiving them and loving them does not mean that what they did is forgotten. They don’t get to get away with it. However, justice or vengeance is God’s job and not ours. Our job is to love, forgive, and be gracious to those who have wronged us. We will leave the judgment to the real judge Himself.
