A Family Protection Prayer

Praying for protection is important, even though God has already promised protection for all His children. There are instances in our lives when we pray for protection from certain things and events that cause us to ask God for help; not because He needs to be reminded but for us to make declarations and use the power of our tongue (see Proverbs 18:21) to speak life in the face of enemy wanting to kill, steal, and destroy (see John 10:10) and for us to be reminded instead of God’s divine protection when fear, anxieties, doubts, and worries creep in our minds and hearts. 

It is important that we always pray for our family’s protection because while it is God’s will for all the good things to come to our family, we also have a spiritual enemy who aims to destroy. We are continuously engaged in spiritual warfare, and our weapon is mighty through God and His Word. 

Here is a simple prayer of protection for your family:

Heavenly Father, I bring to Your presence my whole family. Thank You, for Your hand of protection is upon each of the members of my family; guiding them to the right way and keeping them safe from harm. You send us Your mighty angels to keep our family safe, and You hide us under Your wings. May you give each one of us discernment to know Your will and to obey Your voice at all times in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Sometimes, when you are lost for words and you don’t know how to begin and what to say in a prayer, the best thing that you can do is to declare the Scriptures. There are many scriptures that speak of God’s promise of protection, and you can pray them over your family as well. 1. 2 Thessalonians 3:3

But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.

In Jesus’ name, the LORD is faithful to my family! He establishes each one of us and keeps my family from evil. I give You all the praise and glory God! Amen.

2. Psalm 91:2-3

I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

Prayer:

In Jesus’ name, the Lord is the refuge and fortress of my family. We trust in God, and He shall surely deliver us from the works of the enemy, and no evil shall come near us! Amen.

3. 1 Corinthians 10:13

 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You that You won’t allow my family to be tempted or to suffer beyond what we can bear. You are there to help us and enable us to escape from every work of evil in Jesus’ name. Amen.

4. Psalm 23:4

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Prayer:

Thank You, Father, that even though my family may walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we fear no evil because You are with us. Your rod and Your staff comfort us and keep us safe from harm. We are always secured through You, and we trust in You in Jesus’ name. Amen.

5. Philippians 4:6-7

 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Prayer:

Thank you, God, for Your peace upon my family that surpasses all understanding. You keep us from worries, doubts, and anxieties as we pray for everything with thanksgiving unto You. You guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus; may You be glorified in my family in Jesus’ name. Amen.

How do you pray Psalm 91?

Psalm 91 is a powerful scripture that speaks of God’s promise of protection to those who trust in Him and run to Him for safety and refuge. It is a chapter with 16 verses. In Jesus’ name, my family dwells in the secret place of the Most High and we abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Lord, You are our refuge and fortress. In You alone we trust. I am confident that You will deliver my family from the snares of the fowler and all of the works of the enemy. You cover us with Your feathers, and we are able to rest under Your wings, for we trust in You. Your truth is my family’s shield and buckler. We will not be afraid of any weapons of the enemy against us, for they shall not come near me and my family. No evil will befall my household, or any sicknesses and calamity come near my house, because You have given us Your angels that protect us and keep us in all of our ways. You have given us the authority in Christ Jesus against the enemy, and my family shall trample Satan under our feet. We honor and love You LORD, and we thank You for delivering us from all kinds of trouble. You satisfy me and my family with long life and show us Your salvation through Christ Jesus. Amen.

What is a good prayer for a family?

A prayer of protection for your family that is effective and powerful is one that is offered in faith and righteousness. James 5:16 says that the prayer of a righteous man is effective and powerful. Other than protection, there are many things that you can also pray for your family. Here is a list of things that you may pray for your family:

1. Pray for your family members to walk in their identity and authority in Christ Jesus. This causes them to walk in the victory of Christ daily, no matter the challenges they may face. 
2. Pray for your family’s financial breakthrough, if there’s a need.
3. Pray for God to reign in the hearts of your family members, that Jesus Christ is the LORD of their daily lives.
4. Pray for the daily renewal of the minds of your family members, that they spend time reading the Word of God and are washed by it.
5. Pray for your family’s destiny in Christ. Every family holds a God-given design and a unique power to fulfill and advance Kingdom works and the Kingdom of God.
6. Pray for the next generation of your family, that they may remain godly and walk according to Christlikeness.
7. Pray for your family’s daily strength—physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. 
8. Declare the presence of God to each of your family members.
9. Declare for the love of the Father to be revealed to your family. 
10. Declare salvation through Christ Jesus to your unsaved family members.
