A Blessing Prayer for Married Couples

Marriage is a beautiful gift from God. It is a new beginning of life for both husband and wife, as they are now one new family. God is the Author of marriage, and a Christ-like marriage is key to a long-lasting bond, relationship, and commitment fulfilled by the husband and wife, with Jesus Christ at the center. That is why prayer is so essential in marriages. A marriage covered in prayers by the husband, wife, children, and other godly people is a marriage that the Holy Spirit well protects. So, if you know someone who was recently married and you wish to bless them with a prayer, you can pray in this manner for the married couple:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the life of (couple’s names). Thank You for joining them to be one flesh and blessing them with a new life journey with Christ Jesus at the center. As they face life’s challenges, I pray that Your Word and Your Spirit will continuously strengthen their love for each other. May You protect them from the works of the enemy and give them discernment to know Your will at all times. May their marriage bring glory to Your name and raise a powerful godly generation through the womb, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

On the other hand, if you’re a couple searching for ways to pray for blessings in your marriage, here is an example that may serve as your guide:

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing my spouse and I with the beautiful gift of marriage. As we journey through this life together, may Your name be glorified through us, and may Your Kingdom come, and Your will be done through our lives. We pray that Your love overflows in our hearts and that our love for each other continues to grow richer and deeper in Christ, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the life of (couple's names).

A Blessing Prayer for Married Couples

Without God, faith in Christ, and His Word, a marriage is prone to attacks by an invisible enemy whose aim is to steal, kill and destroy marriages and families (see John 10:10). Every couple must know God’s truths through His Word, so they may be rooted in their identity and authority in Christ Jesus as they face life’s challenges together.

How do you bless a married couple?

Marriage is God’s will for people who choose to marry. In the Gospel, Jesus Christ also attended a wedding event in Cana. His presence blessed the newly-wed couple, and He performed His very first miracle of turning water into wine (see John 2:1-11). He blessed the married couple with His presence and performed a miracle through His divine intervention, just as people’s prayers and intercessions can intervene in situations and cause heaven to move in its creation of miracles.

If you want to bless a married couple, there are many ways to do so. Here are some examples for blessings upon your friend/s who are about to get married, who just got married, or who have been married for a long time:

1. By being present on their wedding day.

Just as Jesus blessed the couple in Cana by being there, your presence is also an excellent blessing, especially since you are a vessel of God’s Spirit and a carrier of His presence. Christ in you will surely bless a married couple.

2. By praying for the couple.

Prayers are so important for couples. Even though they may not see it or may not know it, your prayers do impact the husband and wife’s journey together. Your prayers cause heaven to move on their behalf and one of the greatest blessings a couple may receive is a sincere prayer from a dear friend.

3. By sharing the Word of God.

The Word of God is a great blessing to a soul, whether married or single. You already know that God’s Word pierces the mind and can transform hearts in a second. Scriptures are God’s breath, so by sharing Scriptures, you may bless the couple by texting them, sending them a private message online, or in person when you are together in fellowship.

4. By blessing them with gifts that may be of use to them.

Aside from spiritual blessings, it will also bless the couple to give them presents or gifts that may be useful for their marriage. Some examples can be a home appliance that they can use. This can also be baby items if they have a child or a baby, or you can bless them with money in an envelope, along with your blessing letter. There are so many things you can give to a couple that will truly bless them and their family.

5. By remembering them and greeting them on memorable dates, such as wedding anniversaries, birthdays, etc.

When you remember the couple on their special dates and make time and effort to celebrate them, it blesses them individually and as a couple. Small acts of support like this may encourage and help couples going through trouble in their marriage without your knowledge. Thoughtfulness and kindness are powerful acts of love and healing.

6. By treating them as one flesh and not separate individuals.

While there is a time for engaging with the members of the couple as unique individuals, it certainly blesses a marriage when like-minded people surround couples. It empowers marriage and unity when couples are treated as one flesh. Most couples struggle when surrounded by people who don’t hold to concepts of marriage and sometimes speak words and actions that the enemy may use to sow division, discord, confusion, and doubts between a husband and wife. It is important to treat other people’s marriages like your own!

There are many other ways for you to bless a married couple. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you and guide you in blessing your married friends. Remember that you are a powerful vessel of God and a carrier of the Father’s heart, no matter where you go or what you do.

What is a Good Bible Verse for Marriage?

The Scriptures offer many promises and words of hope, encouragement, and wisdom for couples looking in the godly direction for their marriage. When your marriage is rooted in the Word of God, you are building a strong foundation for your marriage and your family, as God’s Word is eternal, unfailing, and trustworthy. When you rely on His Word more than your own ways of thinking and understanding in your marriage, you begin to witness God’s faithfulness in all areas of your life as a couple, family, and individual. Here are some Bible verses for marriage that you can meditate on and apply in your lives:

1. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

2. Ephesians 5:22-34

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. Therefore, as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

3. Ephesians 5:25-28

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

4. Philippians 2:3

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves.
