What To Pray For As A Couple

As you have started praying as a couple, note that we have mentioned in the previous article (How to Start Praying as a Couple) how consistency in prayer is very important. Even as you have started praying as a couple, you must continue to do so with discipline and consistency until praying together becomes a part of your lifestyle.

That being said, one of the biggest hindrances to a consistent prayer life for most people is not knowing what to pray for. As a couple, starting with praying together may be an exciting journey and something to look forward to every day until you have already said everything in your prayer and your marriage life seems to be going smoothly since God has already answered most prayers.

So, as you think about what to pray for, and there’s just really nothing specific to pray during the day, here are some of the things that you can pray for as a couple:

1. Pray the Scriptures.

Praying the Scriptures every day helps you to establish a consistent and powerful prayer life as a couple. Sometimes, when there’s nothing to pray for specifically, reading God’s Word, exchanging a scripture with your spouse along with your personal meditation, and making it into a prayer is more powerful than your own prayers. After all, God’s Word is God’s will. And heavenly beings only move when we pray according to God’s Word and His perfect will. Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

Heavenly Father, thank You, for we can come to You anytime for whatever requests we may have.

When you pray the Scriptures, God makes sure your efforts won’t return void.

So, for instance, if you want to meditate and declare Philippians 4:6-7, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus,”y ou can pray in this manner:

Heavenly Father, thank You, for we can come to You anytime for whatever requests we may have.

Heavenly Father, thank You, for we can come to You anytime for whatever requests we may have. We are so blessed and privileged to have known You and come to You as children of God. Thank You for the peace that always keeps our minds and hearts in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You, for we can come to You anytime for whatever requests we may have.

2. Pray for a powerful and godly marriage.

As you and your spouse constantly pray to God for your children, your business and ministry, your finances and other needs, your in-laws, and so on, all these things are usually covered in the long run. So, you may sometimes forget how important it also is to constantly pray for your marriage. Prayers are like seeds of words that you plant in the heavenly realm and which you will someday harvest. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Heavenly Father, thank You, for we can come to You anytime for whatever requests we may have.

Therefore, constantly pray until the day Jesus Christ returns for your marriage and declare it to be powerful and godly. This will impact not only your marriage but also your children and the home you are building for many generations to come.

Heavenly Father, thank You for this marriage and for blessing me with a godly spouse. Thank You, for we are partners not just in building our home but in advancing Your kingdom as well. We are raising godly children, and they will praise You and serve You for many years and generations to come in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You, for we can come to You anytime for whatever requests we may have.

3. Pray for your personal relationship with God.

As you and your spouse have decided to follow Jesus (How to Pray to Accept Jesus) and desire to have a consistent prayer life as a couple, it is vitally important to maintain your individual, personal relationship with God. Your relationship with God is not the same as your spouse’s relationship with Him. Thus, one of the most important things you may pray for in your marriage is each one’s relationship with God. You can pray for each other and declare that your priority is Christ and that God always remains number one in each one’s heart. Mark 12:30 says, “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”

Heavenly Father, thank You, for we can come to You anytime for whatever requests we may have.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life of my husband. You have always been number one in his life, and I am proud of his spiritual walk and calling in Christ Jesus. He has always been consistent in his ways because he loves You with all his soul, mind, and strength in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You, for we can come to You anytime for whatever requests we may have.

What to Pray for as a Couple

The list is endless when you partner with the Holy Spirit in praying every day as a couple. You can pray for God’s hand of blessing, favor, and protection in your home, ministry, businesses, and God-given callings; you may also pray for daily wisdom, strength, and health for your friends, relatives, divine connections, and so many more. The Holy Spirit will reveal so many things that you can pray for each day. It is He Who sets your daily divine appointment with the Father and causes your heart to burn with passion as you pray.

Romans 8:26-27 says, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

Invite the Holy Spirit to help you in your prayer life and allow Him to speak and reveal things to you as a couple. Your prayer life will never be the same again when Holy Spirit joins you and your spouse. He is the Perfect Helpmate.

God bless your marriage and empower you as a kingdom couple of Christ Jesus!
