A Christian Prayer for Righteousness

To be a disciple and follower of Christ is a beautiful gift from God; knowing the Son of the Living God and encountering the Way, Truth and Life means that salvation has come upon your life – more than you could ever imagine. The moment you enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, your life totally changes from darkness to light. You are no longer the old you who was full of shame, guilt, anger, and bitterness; now you radiate the light of Christ inside you.

This is the grace of God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of everything Jesus has done for us, all those who believe in Him and come to Him have been made righteous in the eyes of God, and by renewing our minds through the Word of God, we are continuously being sanctified and transformed to Christlikeness.

So, what is a good prayer for righteousness? Here is a simple prayer of gratefulness unto God for the righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ:

Heavenly Father, thank You for making me righteous and holy in Your eyes because of Jesus Christ. I am thankful for all the things Jesus has done for me. Thank You for sending Your only Begotten Son to the world because of Your great love for us. You deserve all the praise and glory and honor, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You for making me righteous and holy in Your eyes because of Jesus Christ.

A Christian Prayer for Righteousness

Righteous living is a life of faith in the LORD Jesus Christ and the Word of God, and nothing else. Our good works are not a result of our own righteousness, but the result of His righteousness in us. We know we are truly saved by His grace because we bear good fruits and obey the Word of God. These things result from experiencing God’s grace because we have been made righteous through the Son.

Another way to pray for righteousness is by declaring Scriptures that speak of your righteousness. Declaring and praying the Word of God is so powerful and effective because you are speaking the very words of the Father, His will on earth, as it is in heaven. Here is an example:

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:21

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Heavenly Father, thank You for making me righteous and holy in Your eyes because of Jesus Christ.

A Christian Prayer for Righteousness

Thank You God that I am made righteous in your eyes because of Jesus. He was made sin for me despite Him being truly sinless. I am truly blessed by this grace I have received, and I praise You forever, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You for making me righteous and holy in Your eyes because of Jesus Christ.

What makes a person righteous in God’s eyes?

God’s people are only made righteous in God’s eyes by having faith in the Son of God. (Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 5:1) says that we have been justified by faith and that we have peace with God. He does not look at us as His enemies anymore, or sinners headed for destruction and the wrath of God that’s coming, but instead as saints, as His children with divine privileges and rights because of everything that Jesus Christ has done for us. The Apostle Paul clearly stated our identity as new creations of God in all his letters to the Churches addressing the believers as saints of God (To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Romans 1:7, 1 Corinthians 1:2, Colossians 1:2, Ephesians 1:1, Philippians 1:1, and so on)

Heavenly Father, thank You for making me righteous and holy in Your eyes because of Jesus Christ.

A Christian Prayer for Righteousness

Righteousness, just like salvation, is a gift that God has freely given to everyone who believes in His Son. It is not something you can earn by doing good things, being charitable, or being more prayerful. You are righteous because of the blood of Jesus Christ. God made things easy for us to find our way back home to His loving arms. He wanted us restored in His presence, so He made a way by sending His only Begotten Son into the world. Through the life of Jesus Christ, the heart of the Father was revealed, as was the Kingdom of Heaven and its power. God demonstrated His love for us when Jesus Christ died on the cross while we were yet sinners  (But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:8).

Heavenly Father, thank You for making me righteous and holy in Your eyes because of Jesus Christ.

A Christian Prayer for Righteousness

This is the grace of God, and this is how we are truly made righteous in His sight, when we believe in Jesus Christ and all He has done for us. Life in the Kingdom is all about Jesus Christ, not about us. It is about His righteousness in us and not about our own self-righteousness; otherwise, we fall short of God’s glorious standards (see Romans 3:23-24).

What is the prayer of a righteous man?

James 5:16 tells us that the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. It is important that as believers of Jesus Christ, we come boldly to God’s throne of grace knowing that our prayers are powerful and effective, not because we are good enough, have done enough, or pleased Him with our works, but simply because of Jesus Christ and His righteousness in us. A prayer from a person whose faith is really anchored in Christ, though he or she may fail and stumble at times, is still powerful and effective, because of the power and righteousness of Christ from within.

There were instances of figures in the Bible who were counted righteous because by faith, they believed and obeyed God – we have Abraham, Moses, Sarah, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, and so many others. These people only believed in God when they heard Him speak, and they were counted righteous by faith (see Hebrews 11). Their prayers were powerful and effective because they truly believed.

Your prayers are also powerful and effective because you are righteous in Christ Jesus. Your faith in the LORD Jesus Christ and your obedience to His Word are powerful and effective in advancing the Kingdom of God here on earth.

How do I seek righteousness?

To seek righteousness is to seek God and His Word. The more your eyes are fixed towards the LORD Jesus Christ, towards heavenly things and the Word of God, the more your perspectives are aligned with the will of God. Jesus Christ is the only path to righteous living.

Here are some ways that may help you in your walk with God towards living a righteous life in Christ Jesus:

  1. Spend time with the Word of God daily.
  2. Have a special time to commune and converse with the LORD as you would with a friend.
  3. Join a godly community where you can grow.
  4. Attend conferences, seminars, and gatherings that equip and build up God’s people for the Kingdom of God.
  5. Be available to be used by God.
  6. Don’t be afraid to step out in faith and take risks when you hear His voice.
  7. Obey the Word of God and do what He says.
  8. Surround yourself with godly friends.
  9. Look for godly counsel when going through tough times and never isolate yourself.
  10. Keep a grateful heart all the time, for this is the will of God.
  11. Never fail to worship God each day, whether in psalms or songs.

May the Holy Spirit give you wisdom in all things as you seek more of the LORD and achieve deeper intimacy and relationship with Him, in Jesus’ name.
